Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between David Cote (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Justin Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Justin Jones will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, David Cote!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Justin Jones!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Yves DeLean and Gregory Folan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cote leaves Jones with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Jones moves into range and clinches up with Cote.
Cote is struggling to control the position.
Cote drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Jones gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Cote tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Jones smiles and moves away.
Cote is breathing heavily.
Jones tries to close the distance and clinch up but Cote swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Cote throws a half hearted mid kick.
Jones misses with a jab, cross combination.
Cote shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Jones but Jones pushes him off and we're back to square one.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for David Cote. That's going to take a lot out of him.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Jones.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Cote tries to sprawl but Jones drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Cote is not content to let Jones control the position.
Jones might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Cote haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Jones tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Cote.
Cote won't allow Jones to pass to mount.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Jones wants to take a breather but Cote is having none of it.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Justin Jones wasn't active enough on the ground.
Jones tries to clinch up but Cote circles away and keeps his distance.
Jones swats away the attempt to clinch by Cote.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Jones.
Cote slaps away a takedown attempt from Jones, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Jones clinches up against the cage.

Cote pulls guard effortlessly.
Cote keeping full guard, as Jones tries to pass.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Jones slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Cote had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Jones defends it easily.
Jones postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Jones trying to control but Cote is working from the bottom.
Cote on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Cote tries to get out of the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Jones pushes down on Cote's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Cote wants to get back to full guard.
Cote is not content to let Jones control the position.

Jones is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Cote sees it coming and defends easily.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Jones is just content to waste time from the top position. Cote takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Jones accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Justin Jones dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Jones pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Cote fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Jones, pushing him back against the cage.
Jones tries to work over Cote's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Jones stops a takedown attempt from Cote.
Jones wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Jones working aggressively here.
Jones goes for a body shot but it's blocked.

Jones has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Cote clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Jones trying to control.

Jones is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Cote has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.

Cote grimaces as he takes a shot to the body.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Cote trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble.
The crowd hopeful of a finish here - Jones's supporters are on their feet, screaming for him to go for the rear naked choke.
Cote trying to control the hands but Jones won't let him.
Cote is really stuck here.

Jones looking to soften up his opponent with punches.
Cote tries to roll but Jones sticks to his back.
Jones is trying to control but Cote is trying to escape here - he's now mounted.
Jones can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Cote is looking to escape.

Jones lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Cote hang on?
Cote wants to control but Jones is having none of it.
Jones tries to stand up but he's trapped just for the moment.
Cote is desperately trying to improve his position but Jones has a good base and remains in mount.
Jones is landing with some decent strikes but Cote is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Cote is trying to escape the mount.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Jones fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

Jones moves to the back position.
Jones thows a huge left but connects with the canvas and not his opponent.
The crowd hopeful of a finish here - Jones's supporters are on their feet, screaming for him to go for the rear naked choke.
Jones controls the position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Cote tries to break free.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Justin Jones showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!


Jones misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Cote has a takedown stuffed.
Jones throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Jones throws a front kick aimed at Cote's knee but Cote avoids it well.
Jones shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Cote but Cote pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Cote circles away from the clinch attempt.
Jones has a takedown stuffed.
Jones with a poor takedown
and Cote counters with a good low kick that Jones was not able to check.
David Cote has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Justin Jones.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Cote throws a low kick but it's checked well by Jones.
Jones lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Cote circles away quickly and effectively.
David Cote is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Jones tries to clinch but Cote moves out of range.
Cote throws the left hand but Jones avoids the punch easily.
Jones tries to clinch up but Cote circles away and keeps his distance.
The fight stays on the outside here - Jones looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Jones throws a sloppy head kick and Cote moves out of range easily.

Cote shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Cote is working for a kimura but Jones is defending it quite comfortably.

Jones is trying to get back to full guard.
Cote stalling.
Justin Jones has got the better of the ground game so far.
Jones is looking for a sweep. Cote is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Cote takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Jones is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up. David Cote wasn't doing enough on the ground.

Cote looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Jones is trying to control but can't.
Cote blocks the strikes from Jones.
Jones is trying to stand.
Cote tries to pass to full mount but Jones defends it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Cote seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Jones does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Cote controlling the action here.

The ref stands the fighters back up because David Cote just wasn't active enough.
Cote tries to close the distance and clinch up but Jones swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Jones throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Cote was covering up waiting for the punch and Jones finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to David Cote.
Well Jones has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
