PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Kyle Lyle (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tanishk Soni (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lyle comes into the arena with "This Charming Man" By The Smiths blaring out of the sound system. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Soni drives through with a takedown into guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Lyle throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Lyle looking to hit a scissor sweep but Soni is one step ahead there.
Soni stays in close to Lyle's body and controls the position.
Soni postures up.

Lyle manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Lyle can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Soni is looking to escape.

Lyle goes for an armbar but Soni turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Soni.

Soni lands with a kick to the ribs.

and Soni counters with a slapping leg kick.
Kyle Lyle seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Lyle swats away the attempt to clinch by Soni.
Soni dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Lyle. That did some damage!

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Lyle misses with a punch on the inside.
Soni drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Lyle gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Kyle Lyle has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tanishk Soni.

Soni has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Lyle regains guard immediately.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Lyle lands a nice shot that snaps Soni's head back.

It looks like Tanishk Soni has been cut.
Soni wants to clinch up but Lyle keeps it at a distance.
Lyle throws a sloppy head kick
and Soni counters with a left and a right that stings Lyle.
Soni pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.

and Soni counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Soni is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Soni avoids the head kick by Lyle.
Soni will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Soni tries to close the distance and clinch up but Lyle swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Soni misses with a few strikes there.
Kyle Lyle is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Soni.
Lyle misses with an uppercut. Soni saw that one coming.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Lyle enables Soni to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Lyle manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Lyle seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Kyle Lyle wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Soni avoids the head kick by Lyle.
Lyle throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Soni stuns Lyle with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Soni shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Lyle defends it nicely.
Soni tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Lyle paws at him with a jab and circles away.
A looping hook to the body misses from Soni. Lyle does a little dance to reset his feet.

A punch lands to the side of Lyle 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Lyle feints a jab promting Soni to slip. Lyle then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Soni slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Lyle throws a series of punches but Soni avoids them all with ease.

Soni lands with a kick to the ribs.
Soni blocks a head kick by Lyle.
Lyle throws a series of punches but Soni moves out of range.
Soni swinging wildly here.

Soni shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Soni was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Lyle tries to buck Soni off but Soni is having none of it.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Soni advances to mount.

Soni is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!

Soni misses with a two punch combination.
Lyle darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Lyle moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Soni is defended easily by Lyle.
Kyle Lyle has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tanishk Soni.
Soni slips a jab from Lyle.
Lyle loads up on a big right hand but Soni slips the punch.
Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Soni. Lyle shrugs it off though.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Soni decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Lyle wants to get back to full guard.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Soni fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
Soni lands a really nice looking cross but Lyle seems unphased.
Lyle throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

A close second round but Tanishk Soni will probably get the nod - 10:9.

Lyle is trying to control Soni's posture but Soni avoids it.
Tanishk Soni has got the better of the ground game so far.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Soni decides to stand back up. Soni steps back and let's Lyle get back to his feet.

Lyle misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Soni tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

and Soni counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Lyle!

Soni is trying to get an arm triangle but Lyle is defending well.
Lyle is looking for a sweep.
Kyle Lyle has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Lyle is working hard here to advance position.
Soni remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Tanishk Soni hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Lyle misses with a head kick.

Lyle gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Soni to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Lyle isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Soni stacks Lyle on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Soni!

Tanishk Soni comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Soni has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
