PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Aj Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jake Pettis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Aj Smith has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Aj Smith seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the featherweight championship of the world!

And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jake Pettis!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Chris Downing and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith blocks a head kick by Pettis.
Nice defenses there by Smith.
Pettis stuffs the takedown.

Pettis is looking to regain half guard here but Smith keeps moving and retains side control.
Pettis avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Smith.

Smith tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Smith has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Smith feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Smith shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Pettis as he jumps to the side.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Pettis enables Smith to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Pettis manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Smith is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Pettis can do to turn this around?

Smith's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Pettis really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Smith. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Aj Smith.
Smith tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Pettis swivels and escapes.
Smith shoots in looking for a takedown but Pettis manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Smith's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Aj Smith. That's going to take a lot out of him.
