The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Thompson tries to bum rush Wyatt with a series of wild strikes but Wyatt uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Thompson connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Wyatt's hands.

Wyatt is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Thompson.

Wyatt shoots in looking for a takedown. Thompson tries to sprawl out of it but Wyatt keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Thompson manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

It looks like Wyatt might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

Wyatt throws a right hand that Thompson ducks under and follows up with a left that Thompson also avoids with ease.

No joy there for Wyatt, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Thompson stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Thompson wants it to stay on the feet.

and Wyatt counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Thompson thinking.

Thompson throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Wyatt stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Wyatt looks for the body kick but Thompson saw that one coming.

Thompson will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
