PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jack Shipman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Steve The Cat (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jack Shipman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Steve The Cat!
The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, Hugh Johnson and Eliza Hachem.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
The Cat fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.

The Cat gets a clinch.
A head punch on the inside from Shipman fails to land.

The Cat escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
The Cat throws a sloppy head kick and Shipman moves out of range easily.
Shipman shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
The Cat throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Shipman's head.


It looks like Jack Shipman has been cut.
This has been an exciting period of action!

The Cat closes the distance and clinches.

The Cat breaks from the clinch.
Shipman shoots for a double leg takedown but The Cat sprawls well. He's pushed Shipman's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

The Cat closes the distance and pushes Shipman back into the cage.

The Cat works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

Shipman looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Shipman is breathing heavily.
The Cat looking to pass the guard.

The Cat's corner is telling him to maintain position.
The Cat trying to control the position from guard on top but Shipman is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Shipman is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as The Cat accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
The Cat really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Shipman. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Shipman can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as The Cat controls the pace.
Shipman not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

The Cat lands a big head kick that sends Shipman tumbling to the mat! The Cat takes a step backwards and waves Shipman back to his feet - he wants the finish!
This has been an exciting period of action!

The Cat shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than The Cat was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!


Shipman is rocked!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The Cat wants to lay and pray for a moment but Shipman keeps working.

Shipman can't do much from the bottom here.
Shipman is trying to escape the position but The Cat is controlling the position.
The Cat working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.
The Cat tries to move to mount but Shipman blocks the move with his legs.
Shipman is not content to let The Cat control the position.
The Cat controls the position.
Shipman is looking to reverse the position.
The Cat advances to mount.
The Cat controlling the pace for now.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Shipman tries to reverse the position but The Cat maintains control.
The Cat looking to ground and pound but Shipman is blocking nicely.
The Cat can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Shipman is looking to escape.
The Cat throws some wild stikes that Shipman manages to avoid easily.

The Cat throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Shipman because The Cat loaded up on that one.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
The Cat tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Shipman is bucking up trying to escape but The Cat cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Shipman is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.
Shipman might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
The Cat takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Shipman tries to hold on but The Cat postures up.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
The Cat misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
The Cat throwing strikes here but Shipman is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.

The Cat is looking to slow Shipman down with leg kicks.
The Cat moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
The Cat connects with a high kick.

Shipman gets caught flat footed, as The Cat shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

The Cat seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Shipman utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Steve The Cat has got the better of the ground game so far.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

The Cat trying to control the position from guard on top but Shipman is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The Cat tries to free his leg and advance position but Shipman is retaining full guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Steve The Cat.
The Cat throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Shipman.

The Cat lands a big head kick that sends Shipman tumbling to the mat! The Cat takes a step backwards and waves Shipman back to his feet - he wants the finish!
Oh Shipman is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
The Cat misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Shipman on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Shipman seems to have got his legs back now.

The Cat feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

The Cat is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Shipman's shoulder. That is not cool.
Shipman parries the strikes from The Cat easily there. The Cat is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Shipman to escape.

The Cat thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
The referee asks The Cat politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. The Cat prefers to stall for the moment though.
The Cat throws a strike aimed at the side of Shipman's head but Shipman avoids it well.

You can see the frustration on Shipman's face as The Cat controls the position.

Let's hope that The Cat has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Shipman wants to control but The Cat postures up.
Shipman is looking for a sweep.
The Cat throws an elbow but Shipman slips to the side and avoids it well.
The Cat throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
The Cat is looking to take a break and control but Shipman is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

That's time! Shipman's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

Shipman on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.

The Cat has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Shipman clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!

The Cat really has the hooks in deep now - there seems like no escape for Shipman.

What can Shipman do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!

The Cat cracks Shipman with a big shot to body and one to the head - really punishing Shipman from the back mount here, looking to soften him up.

Steve The Cat comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well The Cat has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
