PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Chuck Norris (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Edton Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Norris's entrance music is I AM CHUCK NORRIS. A fine choice. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Chuck Norris!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Edton Silva!
The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Edson Gomes and Felipe Paraventi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Silva sizes up Norris with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Norris shoots in for a double leg but Silva sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Silva tries a head kick but it misses.
Silva is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Norris keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Silva stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Silva wants it to stay on the feet.
Silva works over Norris's head and body with a nice combination.


It looks like Chuck Norris has been cut.
Silva tries to bum rush Norris with a series of wild strikes but Norris uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Silva tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Norris swivels and escapes.

Silva has taken the fight to the clinch.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Norris is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Silva gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.
Silva is working for takedown but Norris is calmly controlling the position for now.

Silva's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Horrible takedown by Silva or perhaps it was just good defense by Norris which made him look bad.
Silva shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Norris as he jumps to the side.

Norris gets caught flat footed, as Silva shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Norris working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Silva doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Silva manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Norris is looking to stand up but Silva isn't so interested in that idea.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Silva drops back, looking for a kneebar! Norris looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Norris looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Norris!
Silva manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Silva not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

Silva decides to stand and escape the position.
Silva will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Silva is defended easily by Norris.
Silva has a takedown stuffed.
Silva looks winded!
Silva moves in looking to clinch but Norris pushes him off.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Silva defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Norris.
Silva fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Norris fails with a takedown attempt.
Silva misses with a takedown attempt - Norris sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Norris tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Silva paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Silva throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Norris's waist but Norris gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Silva off to one side.
Silva will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Silva plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!

Norris tries to clinch but Silva is having none of it.
Chuck Norris is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Silva tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Norris manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Silva clinches up with Norris and pushes him back against the cage.
Silva lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.
Silva controlling the action here for a moment.

Norris pulls guard.
Silva wants to control from the top but Norris keeps moving.

Norris has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Silva can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Silva tries to free his leg and advance position but Norris is retaining full guard.
Norris is looking to sweep but instead, Silva has passed into half guard.
Silva wants to take a breather but Norris is having none of it.
Norris wants to get back to his feet.
Silva looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.

Silva is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Norris defends it well.

Silva stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Norris to get to his feet.
Nice takedown defense from Norris. No joy for Silva on that attempt.
Chuck Norris has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Edton Silva.
Norris shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Silva as he jumps to the side.

Silva closes the distance and clinches.

Norris's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Silva can't break the clinch.
Silva is trying to drag Norris to the mat but Norris just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Silva pushes off and fires off an elbow that misses, before clinching up again, against the cage.
Silva wants to take the fight to the mat but Norris manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Silva jumps guard but Norris stands there with Silva around his waist. Silva gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Edton Silva showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Silva shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Norris sprawls well. Norris wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Silva gets slowly back to his feet.

Silva shoots in looking for a takedown but Norris manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Silva's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Chuck Norris has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Edton Silva is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Well Silva has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
