PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Ty Angle (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brian Lobe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 22 - 26 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ty Angle!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 20 - 23 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Brian Lobe!
The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Emerson Jorge and Mauricio Rocha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Angle manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Lobe on his heels. He'll look to pass Lobe's guard now, I'm sure.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Angle postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Angle slips nicely into half guard.
Angle has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Lobe wants to improve his position but Angle is controlling well.

Angle is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Lobe defends it well.

Angle looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.

Angle is trying to work for a kimura but Lobe is defending well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Lobe makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Lobe.

Angle drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Angle jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Angle got a little sloppy there for a moment and Lobe has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Angle has managed to get both his arms back between Lobe's legs - danger averted.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Angle stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Lobe swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Lobe looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Angle wants to control from the top but Lobe keeps moving.

Angle is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Lobe wants to sweep here but Angle controlling him for the moment.
Lobe keeping moving, preventing Angle from controlling successfully.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Angle looking to pass the guard.

Angle is posturing up here but Lobe has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Angle tries to roll out but it's too tight and Angle has to tap! Slick submission there by Lobe!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:31 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Brian Lobe!
