PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jesper Rush (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ervin Castillo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the middleweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jesper Rush!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Ervin Castillo!
The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Elvis Blanc and Alec Ball.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Donk. Castillo catches Rush right on the button with a cross.


Rush is rocked!

Rush gets the takedown into side control.
Oh Rush is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

Rush is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Castillo is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Rush seems to have got his legs back now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Castillo is not content to let Rush control the position.
Castillo regains half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Rush is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Castillo is just riding it out for now. Rush eventually gives up the hold.
Castillo avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Rush.
Castillo is looking to improve his position.
Rush wants to pass the guard but Castillo is defending well.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Rush looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Rush shoots in but no luck this time.
A kick lands to the mid section there for Rush.
Ervin Castillo seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Castillo throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Rush is breathing heavily.
Castillo lands a jab to Rush's midsection.
Rush checks a leg kick nicely.
Rush closes this distance looking for a takedown but Castillo circles away.
Rush has a takedown stuffed.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jesper Rush. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Rush closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Castillo is looking for a sweep.
Rush wants to lay and pray for a moment but Castillo keeps working.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Rush goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Castillo rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Rush's guard! Nice work there by Castillo!
Castillo must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Rush is trying to keep Castillo in close.

Ervin Castillo dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Excellent takedown into side control there by Rush.
Castillo is not content to let Rush control the position.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Jesper Rush.
Castillo throws a leg kick but Rush moved away.
Castillo works Rush's body with a nice hook.
Rush is looking to clinch but Castillo is avoiding it.
Castillo drops his shoulder and cracks Rush with a huge uppercut! Rush goes down! Can Castillo finish him?
Castillo wants to control from the top but Rush keeps moving.

Rush throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Castillo escapes and throws Rush's legs to the side, diving into side control!
Rush manages to get back to half guard.

Rush wants to control but Castillo is keeping busy.
Rush is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Castillo jumps into side control!
Rush looks to move to half guard but instead Castillo has passed into mount! Damn!
Rush is working to get back to half guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Rush tries to hold on but Castillo postures up.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Castillo avoids the attempt from Rush to control.
Rush is trying desperately to improve position.
Castillo manages to capitalize on a mistake by Rush to take his back!

Rush tries to escape but Castillo has the hooks in and won't let him break free.
Rush trying to control the action but Castillo just sinks the hooks in.
Castillo is controlling his opponent, waiting for an opportunity to finish.
Rush wants to escape the position.
Castillo avoiding Rush 's attempts to control his hands.
Castillo controls the position.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Let's hope that Castillo has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Rush turns into Castillo and is now in his guard.
Rush trying to control but Castillo is working from the bottom.

Rush postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Castillo is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Rush, into his guard.
Rush looking to control but Castillo passes into half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ervin Castillo showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Castillo waves his right hand out infront of him, looking to distract Rush. Oh, he's unloaded a beast of a left hand - it worked! He's dropped Rush to the canvas! Can he finish him!?

Rush looking for a guillotine here but Castillo defends easily.
Castillo has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Rush is proving hard to escape from.

Rush is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Rush throwing strikes off his back to little effect.

Rush looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Rush keeping full guard, as Castillo tries to pass.
Castillo trying to stand up but can't free himself from Rush's guard.
Rush trying to keep a closed guard but Castillo is proving a slippery customer.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Castillo avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Rush misses with a takedown attempt - Castillo sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Castillo throws a big overhand right that connects, sending Rush tumbling to the canvas!


It looks like Jesper Rush has been cut.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Rush is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Jesper Rush is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
A big right followed by a crushing left from Castillo knocks Rush out cold! Ouch - that one's going to be featured in highlight reels for years to come!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:43 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Ervin Castillo!
