PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Clark Zod (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ty Segall (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Clark Zod!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ty Segall!
The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, Reed Andrews and Columbo Gatti.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Zod throws a head kick that misses

and Segall counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Zod!
Zod is looking to regain half guard here but Segall keeps moving and retains side control.
Segall is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Zod is pushing Segall's head away, looking to escape. Segall manages to hold on to the position though.
Segall wants to stand but Zod has his arm trapped.
Segall really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Zod. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Segall is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Zod will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Zod is trying to control Segall's posture but Segall avoids it.

Segall tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Segall has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Zod might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Segall wants to stand but Zod has his arm trapped.
Zod is working to avoid the ground and pound but Segall connects with a decent elbow.
Zod tries to improve position but can't.
Segall working the head with strikes.
Segall trying to control the action but Zod is working from the bottom.
Zod wants to control but Segall postures up.

Segall thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Segall tries to move into full mount but can't pass Zod's legs.
Segall wants to stand but Zod has his arm trapped.
Zod tries to improve position but can't.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Segall scores with a couple of short elbows.
Segall controlling from side mount.
Zod gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Segall is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
Zod is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Segall working over Zod with some ground and pound. Zod looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.

Segall works his way into side control.
Segall wants to control but Zod is keeping him busy.
Zod tries to get back to half guard but can't.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ty Segall dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Zod misses with a few strikes there.

Segall rushes Zod and presses him up against the cage.
Segall has Zod pressed against the cage, preventing Zod from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Zod tries to break the clinch but Segall is controlling the position.
Segall tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Zod smiles and moves away.

Segall doesn't manage to clinch there - Zod circles away.
Zod stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Zod wants it to stay on the feet.

Segall shoots in looking for a takedown but Zod manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Segall's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Clark Zod has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ty Segall.
A bone on bone clash there as Zod blocks the leg kick.
Segall pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Zod feints and as Segall raises his hands in defense, Zod changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Zod goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Segall has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Zod but great work by Segall.

Zod is trying to control Segall's posture but Segall avoids it.
Zod holds on to Segall's head and controls the position momentarily.
Zod trying to control but Segall flips him over like a cheap hooker and has his back!
Segall lands with a big left hand that may well have hurt his opponent. Can Zod hold on?!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Zod wants to get back to his feet.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Segall just keeping the dominant position. He can't wait too long though, otherwise the referee will stand them back up.
Segall trying desperately to keep hold of the dominant position.
Segall controls the action.
Segall tries to keep control of the position but Zod is staying busy.
Segall is trying to stick to Zod's back but Zod is turning into Segall. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Segall's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Zod.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Segall lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Zod!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Zod swinging wildly from the bottom but he's not landing.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Ty Segall will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Zod lands with a cross.
Segall scores with a body shot.

Segall has closed the distance and engaged Zod in a clinch.

Segall breaks from the clinch.

Segall moves into the clinch successfully.
Zod jumps guard but Segall stands there with Zod around his waist. Zod gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Zod is looking to break free of the clinch but Segall has double underhooks.
Zod trying to control the position but instead, Segall has worked for underhooks and has pushed Zod into the cage.

Segall breaks the clinch.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Zod shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Segall as he jumps to the side.
Some wild striking there from Zod.
Zod throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Segall shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Zod defends it nicely.
Zod has a takedown stuffed.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Clark Zod. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Segall closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Zod wants to get back to his feet but Segall drags him back down.
Segall tries to stand but Zod is controlling his head.
Segall is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
Zod takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Zod wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
Zod is trying to get back to half guard.
Segall tries to stand but Zod is controlling his head.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Segall content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
Zod is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Segall asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Segall lands a decent elbow from side control.
Segall tries to stand but Zod is controlling his head.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Zod is not content to let Segall control the position.
Zod is looking for a sweep.
Zod wants to control but Segall postures up.
Ty Segall has got the better of the ground game so far.
Zod pushes Segall away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Segall gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Segall is putting a hurting on Zod here, landing some big shots from side control.

And that's the end of the fight!
Ty Segall comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Segall has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
