PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Kenny Scylla (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Pekka Paniikki (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Pekka Paniikki will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Kenny Scylla!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Pekka Paniikki!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Yamamoto, Yuuki Gou and Taro Takaoka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Scylla circles away from the clinch attempt.
Scylla keeps the fight on the outside.

Paniikki drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Paniikki wants to stand but Scylla has his arm trapped.
You can see the frustration on Scylla's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Paniikki decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Scylla tries for a takedown but Paniikki circles away easily
and Paniikki counters with a nice low kick that buckles Scylla's knee momentarily.

Paniikki tries to close the distance and clinch up against the ropes but Scylla paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Paniikki does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.

Paniikki tries to score with a low kick but Scylla moves his leg out of the way.
Paniikki doesn't manage to clinch there - Scylla circles away.
Scylla shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Paniikki as he jumps to the side.
Paniikki misses the shot to the body.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Scylla changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Paniikki tries to avoid it but Scylla manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Paniikki to the ground. Paniikki escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kenny Scylla. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Paniikki throws out a loose jab but Scylla uses good head movement to avoid it.
Paniikki moves in looking to clinch but Scylla pushes him off.
Paniikki tries to close the distance and clinch but Scylla swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Scylla changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Paniikki tries to avoid it but Scylla manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Paniikki to the ground. Paniikki escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Paniikki tries to clinch there but Scylla circles away.

Scylla looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Scylla shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Scylla was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Paniikki squirming around on the bottom, looking to escape.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Scylla fails to take his opponent's back.
Paniikki is really trying hard to get back to his feet.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Paniikki has given up his back, trying to stand up. Not clever.
Paniikki has the hand control, trying to stop the rear naked choke.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Pekka Paniikki dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Paniikki lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Scylla has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Scylla and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Scylla.
Paniikki tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

The crowd hopeful of a finish here - Scylla's supporters are on their feet, screaming for him to go for the rear naked choke.

Paniikki is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet.
Paniikki is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.

You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Paniikki is looking to clinch.
Paniikki swings for the body but Scylla moves out of range.
Paniikki tries to close the distance and clinch but Scylla swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Scylla checks a leg kick.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
