PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Marco Bazzottia (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Purbida Dagul (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Purbida Dagul will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Marco Bazzottia!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Purbida Dagul!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Bazzottia connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Good leg kick by Bazzottia there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Dagul changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Bazzottia tries to avoid it but Dagul manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Bazzottia to the ground. Bazzottia escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Dagul uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Bazzottia.
Bazzottia loads up on a big right hand but Dagul slips the punch.
Dagul is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Dagul fails in his attempt to clinch.
Bazzottia takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
A punch lands to the side of Bazzottia 's head but he takes it in his stride.

Dagul doesn't manage to clinch there - Bazzottia circles away.
Dagul fails with a takedown attempt.
Dagul misses with a head kick.
Dagul tries for a takedown but Bazzottia sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Marco Bazzottia has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Purbida Dagul.
Dagul fails in his attempt to clinch.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A thudding body kick lands there by Bazzottia!
Dagul tries to clinch up.
Dagul shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Bazzottia sprawls well. Bazzottia wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Dagul gets slowly back to his feet.
Dagul shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Bazzottia defends it nicely.

A nice leg kick lands there from Bazzottia.
Dagul walks into a jab.
Bazzottia will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.

Dagul tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

A head kick from Dagul lands but Bazzottia takes it in his stride.
Dagul tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Bazzottia is able to avoid easily.
Dagul shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Bazzottia as he avoids it easily.
Bazzottia moves out of range of the strikes.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Marco Bazzottia will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Bazzottia throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Bazzottia cracks Dagul with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
Dagul pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Bazzottia thows a leg kick but Dagul checks it
and Dagul counters with a leg kick.
Bazzottia shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.

Bazzottia lunges at Dagul with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Dagul's hand.
Dagul blocks a leg kick.
Bazzottia tries a head kick but it misses.
Marco Bazzottia is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Dagul closes this distance looking for a takedown but Bazzottia circles away.
A slapping leg kick lands for Bazzottia.
Bazzottia misses with a right hand

and Dagul moves into the clinch.

Bazzottia has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Bazzottia has had enough of the clinch but Dagul keeps him there for the moment.

We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Bazzottia wants to get up but he can't break Dagul's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Dagul controls Bazzottia momentarily but Bazzottia frees himself.
Bazzottia is looking to stand up but Dagul won't let him.

Bazzottia trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Purbida Dagul.
Dagul throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Bazzottia's waist but Bazzottia gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Dagul off to one side.
Marco Bazzottia has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Purbida Dagul.
Bazzottia tries to land a leg kick but Dagul saw it coming and moves away.
Dagul fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

Bazzottia throws a nice outside leg kick.
Dagul throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Bazzottia's waist but Bazzottia gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Dagul off to one side.

Dagul tries to clinch but Bazzottia is having none of it.
Dagul tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Bazzottia manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.

Dagul takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Dagul will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Dagul chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Bazzottia can pounce on him.
Bazzottia keeps the fight on the outside.

and Dagul counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Dagul prevents Bazzottia from getting back to his feet.
Dagul throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Bazzottia works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Bazzottia wants to stand up but Dagul is controlling him.
Dagul wants to stand but Bazzottia is controlling his posture from full guard.
Bazzottia is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Dagul loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Bazzottia is looking to stand up but Dagul isn't so interested in that idea.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Bazzottia keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Nice straight punches there by Bazzottia. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Bazzottia.
Dagul closes the distance and clinches up with Bazzottia, looking for a takedown. Dagul pushes Bazzottia against the cage but Bazzottia circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Bazzottia scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.

Dagul dives in and grabs Bazzottia's left leg, looking for a takedown. Bazzottia pushes down on Dagul's head and hops out.
Bazzottia fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Dagul checks it well.
Bazzottia changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Bazzottia thumps Dagul with a low kick.
Bazzottia does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Purbida Dagul has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Purbida Dagul seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Bazzottia lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Marco Bazzottia.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Bazzottia, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
