PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Nick Wellington (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Shane Stevens (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Wellington comes to the cage accompanied by Rick Ross - MC Hammer. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Daniel Cesar and Felipe Paraventi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stevens slips a straight right by Wellington.
Wellington looks to land a left hand but Stevens moved out of range nicely.
Wellington rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Stevens counters with a one-two to the body.

Stevens closes the distance and clinches.

Stevens breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Stevens looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Wellington!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Stevens trying to control the position but Wellington is working away.

Stevens wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Wellington, who protects the arm well.
Wellington wants to control but Stevens postures up.

Wellington is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.
Stevens tries to advance to mount but can't.
Wellington tries to buck Stevens off but Stevens is having none of it.

Stevens sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Wellington is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.

Stevens moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Wellington is trying to control Stevens's posture but Stevens avoids it.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Stevens fails to land with a series of punches.

Wellington is pushing Stevens up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.

Stevens shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Wellington is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
The fighters are battling for position here. Wellington manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Stevens stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Wellington swivels though and keeps the full guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Stevens is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Wellington shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Stevens napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Wellington wants to lay and pray for a moment but Stevens keeps working.

We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Nick Wellington has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.

Wellington ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Stevens moves away.
Stevens ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Stevens fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Wellington manages to avoid it.

Stevens gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Wellington to score an easy takedown into full guard.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Wellington stands up over Stevens, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Wellington trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Stevens throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Stevens is breathing heavily.

Wellington wants to get up but he can't break Stevens's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Wellington throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Stevens closes this distance looking for a takedown but Wellington circles away.

Wellington is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Stevens can't fight it off and eventually Wellington manages to take the fight to the floor. Stevens looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Wellington will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Wellington slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Wellington lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Wellington throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
