PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Hometown Hero (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marvin Hagler (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Hero might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Hall of Fame. Hometown Hero has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Hometown Hero!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Marvin Hagler!
The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Trevor Gratis and Gregory Folan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hero tries to clinch there but Hagler circles away.

Hagler drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Hagler throws an elbow but Hero slips to the side and avoids it well.
Hagler in side control lands a decent elbow.
Hagler has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Hero is trying to control Hagler's posture but Hagler avoids it.
Hero is trying to get back to half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hero wants to control but Hagler postures up.

Hagler goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Hero has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Hagler but great work by Hero.
Hagler is not content to let Hero control the position.

Hagler tries to bench press Hero off him but Hero keeps the position.
Hagler prevents Hero from moving into mount.
Hero in side control, just content to control the action for now.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Hero trying to control the position but Hagler is working away.
Hagler regains half guard.
Hagler preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Hometown Hero just wasn't active enough.
Hagler lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hagler throws a series of punches but Hero moves out of range.
Hero takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Hagler lands a jab to Hero's midsection.
Hagler scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
A jab from Hagler finds it's way through Hero's defenses.
Hagler ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Hagler misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Hero takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Hero throws a head kick that misses.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Hagler enables Hero to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Hagler manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Hagler wants to sweep here but Hero controlling him for the moment.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Hagler is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Hero's corner is telling him to maintain position.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Hometown Hero just wasn't active enough.
Hagler motions for Hero to come forward. Hagler throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Nice body punch from Hagler.
Hagler lands a lovely overhand right.
Hagler connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Hagler connects with a single shot there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Marvin Hagler dominated that round.
That's time! Hero's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


A left and a right from Hagler both land. Nice combination.


It looks like Hometown Hero has been cut.
Hero takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Hagler scores with a sloppy right hand. Hero should have avoided that one.
Hero takes a swing at Hagler's ribcage but misses.
Hagler scores with a nice strike.
Hagler connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Hagler punishes Hero's body with a nice straight punch.
Hagler lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Hagler lands a nice hook to Hero's body. Hero takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Hagler blocks a head kick by Hero.
Hero blocks the body kick.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Hagler throws a body kick that misses.
Hagler misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
The fight stays on the outside here - Hero looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Hero shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

Hagler is refusing to be controlled, as Hero sits in half guard.
Hagler tries to get to full guard but Hero has control of the leg.
The fighters are battling for position here. Hagler manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Hagler pulls Hero in to control the position.

Hagler is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Hagler looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Hero puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Hagler is staying active underneath Hero, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Hometown Hero overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Hometown Hero just wasn't active enough.
Hagler fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Hero checks it well.
Marvin Hagler seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Hagler scores with a jab to the head.
Hagler's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Hagler duly obliges.

Hero sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.
Hagler swats away the attempt to clinch by Hero.
Hagler lands with a cross.
A jab lands there for Hagler.
Nice takedown defense from Hero. No joy for Hagler on that attempt.
Hagler throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.

Hagler looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Hagler is in close to Hero's body, working some short punches and elbows.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Hagler wants to control from the top but Hero keeps moving.
Hero wants to get back to his feet but Hagler is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Hagler distracts Hero with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Hero controls Hagler momentarily but Hagler frees himself.
Hagler postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

Hagler postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Hero is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Hagler, into his guard.
Hero tries to free his leg and advance position but Hagler is retaining full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Marvin Hagler showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The cut man is working on Hometown Hero's cut.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!

Hero tries to clinch up but Hagler circles away and keeps his distance.

Hero throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Hagler was covering up waiting for the punch and Hero finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Hero is looking to stand up but Hagler won't let him.
Hagler is trying to keep Hero in close.
Hero wants to control from the top but Hagler keeps moving.

Hometown Hero has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.

Hero shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Hagler napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Hero is trying to ground and pound but Hagler uses the momentary lack of control by Hero to regain half guard.
It looks like Hero is going to stand back up.
Hagler is looking for a sweep. Hero is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Hagler is staying active underneath Hero, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Hero trying to mount his opponent but Hagler defends it.
Hagler regains full guard. Nicely done.
Hagler keeping moving, preventing Hero from controlling successfully.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Hero with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Hagler to score with a decent uppercut.
Hagler fails to land the takedown.
Hagler scores with a jab to the head.
Hagler lands with a shot to the body.
Hagler scores with a jab. Hero acknowledges it with a nod of the head.


Hometown Hero's cut is getting worse.
Hero looks like he's developed a pretty tasty lump over his left eye. He'll need to avoid taking much more damage to that.
Hero checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
Hagler misses with an attempted mid kick.
Hero takes one on the button.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Hagler feints a jab promting Hero to slip. Hagler then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Hero slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Hagler getting the better of the striking in that exchange.
Hagler smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Hagler slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.

Hagler scores with a decent looking hook.
Hagler connects with the punch.

Hero looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Hagler!
Hagler sneaks back into half guard.
Hagler wants to improve his position but Hero is controlling well.
Hero slows the pace down in half guard.
Hometown Hero has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Hero with the ground and pound but Hagler uses the opportunity to regain guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Marvin Hagler comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Hagler winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
