PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Seano Mac (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Josh Berzins (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Seano Mac!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Josh Berzins!
The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, Daniel Bishop and William Gold.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mac fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Berzins.
Decent striking displayed by Mac there.
Mac goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.


It looks like Josh Berzins has been cut.
Berzins misses with a body punch
and Mac counters with a nice leg kick.
Mac pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.

Berzins gets a takedown into half guard.

Berzins is trying to work for a kimura but Mac is defending well.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Berzins is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Mac tries to kick Berzins off but Berzins keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Berzins wants to work for an arm triangle but Mac is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Berzins wants to control but Mac is keeping him busy.
Berzins content to control rather than advance.
Berzins wants to pass the guard but Mac is defending well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Mac wants to get back to his feet.

Berzins is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Mac sees it coming and defends easily.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Mac is looking to escape.

Berzins with the ground and pound but Mac uses the opportunity to regain guard.
Berzins is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Berzins wants to control from the top but Mac keeps moving.
Berzins throwing strikes but missing.
Berzins won't allow Mac to get back to his feet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Berzins missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

Berzins drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Berzins jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Mac looking to hit a scissor sweep but Berzins is one step ahead there.
Mac has momentary wrist control but Berzins slips an elbow through the middle.

Mac could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Berzins has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Mac is breathing heavily.

Berzins is taking a breather. Mac says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Berzins is trying to control the action in half guard but Mac is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Josh Berzins has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Mac tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Berzins paws at him with a jab and circles away.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Mac lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Mac moves away from the strike by Berzins.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Berzins thows a body shot but no joy.
Seano Mac seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Mac moves into range and lands a nice body kick.
Berzins misses with an uppercut.
Mac throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Berzins.
Mac is looking to clinch.
Berzins throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Berzins throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Mac misses with a series of wild punches.
Berzins tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.

Mac uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Berzins.
A big left from Berzins misses.

Berzins shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Berzins is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Mac wants to get back to his feet.

Berzins has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Mac defend it? Berzins steps over the head and cranks it - Mac is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Berzins!
