Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between John Deurell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lerba Schmeizel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Schmeizel is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Zorba the Greek. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Schmeizel misses with a body punch

and Deurell decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Schmeizel's guard.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Deurell wants to pass the guard but Schmeizel is keeping the position.
Deurell might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Schmeizel really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Deurell. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Deurell is stalling here. Schmeizel is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Deurell seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Schmeizel has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

Schmeizel is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Deurell gets his way!

Deurell has his foot on Schmeizel's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Schmeizel works his way back into a safe position though.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Deurell cracks Schmeizel with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Deurell shoots in for a double leg but Schmeizel sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Deurell closes the distance and clinches up with Schmeizel, looking for a takedown. Deurell pushes Schmeizel against the ropes but Schmeizel circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Deurell changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Schmeizel tries to avoid it but Deurell manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Schmeizel to the ground. Schmeizel escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
