PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Bobby Hill (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jason Fray (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 9 - 0, fighting out of New York, Bobby Hill!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jason Fray!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Timothy Bukovac and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fray throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Fray swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Fray misses with a double jab.
Fray scores with a one two! Hill had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Fray keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Fray is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Fray lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!


Hill is rocked!

Fray gets caught flat footed, as Hill shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Hill lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Hill working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Hill is pushing down on Fray's leg trying to pass to half guard. Fray is fighting to maintain full guard but Hill has managed to sneak the leg through.
Hill thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Fray's head.
Fray gets full guard.
Hill throws a strike but Fray rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Fray wants to pass the guard but Hill is keeping the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Fray would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Hill has control of Fray's left arm, preventing Fray from doing any damage.
Hill trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!
Fray tries to free his leg and advance position but Hill is retaining full guard.
Fray preventing the sweep.
Fray trying to stand up but can't free himself from Hill's guard.
Hill is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Hill throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Hill trying to pass the guard but Fray defending well.
Fray is looking for a sweep. Hill is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Fray avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Hill.
Fray is looking to improve his position.
Hill has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Hill seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Hill wants to pass the guard but Fray is defending well.
Hill missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Fray avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Hill.
Hill lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.

Fray is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Hill pulls his head out easily.
Hill throwing shots but Fray is blocking nicely.
Hill content to control rather than advance.
Fray on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.

Hill is looking for a kimura here.
Fray wants to improve his position but Hill is controlling well.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Hill wants to take a breather but Fray is having none of it.
Fray tries to roll over but Hill keeps him under control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Hill lands a nice short elbow.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Hill is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Fray sees it coming and defends easily.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Hill seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Fray does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Hill thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bobby Hill dominated that round.
That's time! Hill's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Fray looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Hill uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Fray.
Hill defending well as Fray loads up on a big left hand.
Fray throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Hill sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Fray misses with a series of wild punches.
Fray swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Hill counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Hill trying to control from half guard but Fray is working away.
Hill uses his free foot to push down on Fray's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Fray.
Hill lands a big shot to the head and Fray winces in pain. He's tapped out due to strikes!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:59 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Strikes). Bobby Hill!
