PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Chuck Liddell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Maksim Mazurov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Aleksei Zolotukhin, Aleksandr Martynov and Fedor Mirinova.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Horrible takedown by Liddell or perhaps it was just good defense by Mazurov which made him look bad.
Mazurov closes this distance looking for a takedown but Liddell circles away.
Liddell swings for the body but Mazurov moves out of range.
Mazurov avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Liddell dives in and grabs Mazurov's left leg, looking for a takedown. Mazurov pushes down on Liddell's head and hops out.

Mazurov fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Liddell to the ground. Mazurov is now in Liddell's guard.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Mazurov showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
Mazurov throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Liddell works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Mazurov is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Liddell on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Liddell tries to get out of the position.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Maksim Mazurov wasn't active enough on the ground.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Mazurov.
Liddell is pushing Mazurov's head away, looking to escape. Mazurov manages to hold on to the position though.
Mazurov lands some shots froms side control.
Liddell tries to buck Mazurov off but Mazurov is having none of it.
Liddell is working to avoid the ground and pound but Mazurov connects with a decent elbow.
Liddell seems a little lost for a moment, as Mazurov dominates the positioning.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Mazurov is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Liddell knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
A control attempt from Liddell but he's now mounted!

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Mazurov manages to capitalize on a mistake by Liddell to take his back!
Mazurov is trying to stick to Liddell's back but Liddell is turning into Mazurov. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Mazurov's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Liddell.

Mazurov wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Mazurov wants to stand and escape but Liddell is having none of it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Liddell has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Mazurov is proving hard to escape from.

Liddell is posturing up here but Mazurov has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Liddell tries to roll out but it's too tight and Liddell has to tap! Slick submission there by Mazurov!
