Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Grace Matx!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Steven Stark!
The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Leandro Rodrigues and Daniel Cesar.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A right-left combo lands from Stark.
A punch combination from Stark misses.
Stark wants to slow Matx down by chopping away at his legs.
Stark tests Matx's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Stark blocks a head kick by Matx.
Matx manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Stark on his heels. He'll look to pass Stark's guard now, I'm sure.
Stark is trying to control the position but Matx postures up.
Stark wants to get back to his feet but Matx is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Matx is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Matx tries to free his leg and advance position but Stark is retaining full guard.
Matx drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Matx jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Matx postures up.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Matx pushes down on Stark's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Matx in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Stark tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Matx!
