PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dan Brownstone (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ilia Kosarev (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Ilia Kosarev was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Dan Brownstone!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 7 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Ilia Kosarev!
The judges for this bout are Konstantin Menshow, Sergei Dronov and Vladimir Khabensky.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kosarev shoots and misses
and Brownstone counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Kosarev is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Brownstone.


It looks like Ilia Kosarev has been cut.

Brownstone bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Brownstone tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.

Brownstone decides to stand up, so the ref orders Kosarev to his feet.

Kosarev shoots in for a takedown but Brownstone shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Dan Brownstone has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ilia Kosarev.

Brownstone gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Brownstone tries for a takedown but Kosarev manages to get underhooks.
Kosarev has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Brownstone after a bit of a struggle.
Kosarev changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Brownstone fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Brownstone shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Brownstone showed some decent athleticism there.
Brownstone thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Brownstone looks to land a strike but Kosarev avoids it nicely and regains full guard.
Brownstone throws a big right hand that misses.

Kosarev pushes Brownstone off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Brownstone is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Kosarev's half guard.

Kosarev pushes Brownstone off looking to stand but Brownstone dives back in and keeps control.

Brownstone seems to be working for a kimura but Kosarev defends the submission attempt.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Brownstone throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Brownstone misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.

Kosarev is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Brownstone is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Kosarev can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Brownstone fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Kosarev avoids it really well and circles away.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Kosarev can do anything to dispel that myth.

Kosarev keeping moving, preventing Brownstone from controlling successfully.
Brownstone stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Kosarev swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Brownstone throws a strike but Kosarev rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Brownstone seems keen to control Kosarev's posture.
Dan Brownstone overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Kosarev throws a big right hand that misses.
Kosarev throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Brownstone works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Brownstone tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Brownstone utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Brownstone is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Kosarev can do to turn this around?
Brownstone has momentary wrist control but Kosarev slips an elbow through the middle.

Brownstone is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Brownstone is looking for a kimura here.
Kosarev is refusing to be controlled, as Brownstone sits in half guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Brownstone is just content to waste time from the top position. Kosarev takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Kosarev shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Dan Brownstone is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Brownstone drives through with a takedown into Kosarev's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Kosarev has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Brownstone off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

Kosarev throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Brownstone was covering up waiting for the punch and Kosarev finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Brownstone pulls Kosarev in close to prevent any damage.
Brownstone is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Brownstone is trying to control the position but Kosarev postures up.

Hammerfist, elbow! yells Kosarev's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Kosarev takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Kosarev is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Brownstone has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Kosarev is looking to defend but Brownstone has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Kosarev! Brownstone pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Kosarev taps out and this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:44 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Dan Brownstone!
