PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Roman Davis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Angus Fraser (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fraser is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Get Back!. Angus Fraser is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Roman Davis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Angus Fraser!
The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, Sam Margolis and William Gold.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Davis misses with a double jab.
Davis throws a sloppy head kick and Fraser moves out of range easily.
Some wild striking there from Davis.
Davis misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Fraser.

Davis looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Davis working the head and body with strikes.

Davis is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Fraser is just riding it out for now. Davis eventually gives up the hold.

Davis is working for a kimura from half guard. He's really concentrating on the hold and it's allowed Fraser to slip a leg under and get back to full guard.

Davis passes into half guard.
Davis thows a huge punch but Fraser dodges it nicely.
Davis looks to land a strike but Fraser avoids it nicely and regains full guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Fraser can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Davis controls the pace.
Davis wants to stand but Fraser has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Davis slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Davis trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Davis tries to free his leg and advance position but Fraser is retaining full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Davis shoots in looking for a takedown. Fraser tries to sprawl out of it but Davis keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Fraser manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Davis throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

and Davis counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Davis.

The referee calls for the fighters to work.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Davis is keen to just control but Fraser is a slippery customer.
Davis is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Fraser!

Davis stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.

Davis stuns Fraser with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.

Davis darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Davis is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Davis is keen to just control but Fraser is a slippery customer.
Fraser wants to get back to his feet.

Davis throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Davis wants to pass to mount but Fraser is defending the position.
Davis is tying to control. Fraser wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Fraser looking to force a kimura from the bottom here. He's concentrating on that move too much though and Davis pushes past his half guard into mount!
Davis throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Davis shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Davis was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Davis wants to control the pace but Fraser is squirming around nicely.
Fraser has worked his way to half guard, taking advantage of Davis's lack of action.
Fraser is looking to improve his position.

Davis wants to take a breather but Fraser is having none of it.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Roman Davis just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
Davis looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Fraser is fending him off so far but Davis persists. Nope, Fraser circles away and we're back to standing.

Horrible takedown by Davis or perhaps it was just good defense by Fraser which made him look bad.

Davis takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The referee warns Fraser that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

Davis can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Fraser is looking to escape.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Davis with shots to the head and body - Fraser looks very uncomfortable down there.
Roman Davis overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Roman Davis.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Davis, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
