PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Uther Champy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hannibal Lecter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Champy's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Cage the Elephant - Ain't No Rest for the Wicked. Hannibal Lecter is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Uther Champy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 5 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Hannibal Lecter!
The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, Hugh Johnson and Winston Howard.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Good standup being displayed there by Champy as he connects with a hook.

Lecter closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Champy's guard.
Champy will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Champy has his foot on Lecter's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Lecter works his way back into a safe position though.
Lecter postures up.
Lecter passes Champy's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Champy wants to control but Lecter is keeping busy.

Lecter seems to be looking for submissions.
Champy is trying to get back to full guard.
Champy trying to control here.

Lecter is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Lecter is looking for a kimura but Champy is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Lecter to get the leverage.

Lecter is trying to work for a kimura but Champy is defending well.
Champy moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Lecter thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Lecter working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Champy manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Lecter manages to get himself to full guard.
Lecter controls Champy momentarily but Champy frees himself.
Lecter tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Lecter has his foot on Champy's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Champy works his way back into a safe position though.
Champy won't allow Lecter to sweep him here.
Champy really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Champy is standing up over Lecter. Lecter looks to escape but Champy dives into side control.
Champy creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Lecter sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Lecter is trying to get back to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Champy wants to control but Lecter is keeping him busy.
Champy postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Lecter is trying to improve his position.
Sloppy strikes there by Champy.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Champy cracks Lecter with a big right hand but Lecter just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Champy in side control, throwing shots but Lecter defends.
Lecter can't do much from the bottom here.
Champy works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
Champy wants to lay and pray for a moment but Lecter keeps working.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Champy working the ground and pound from side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Champy advances to mount.
BOOM! Champy connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Lecter is squirming around, avoiding Champy's attempts to control the action.
Lecter gets back to half guard.
Champy looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Champy trying to mount his opponent but Lecter defends it.
Lecter is looking to escape.

Champy is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Lecter sees it coming and defends easily.
Lecter keeps control of the position for the meantime.
Champy thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Lecter holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.
Champy working the head and body with strikes.
Champy misses with a head shot. Lecter uses the momentum to regain guard.
Lecter is trying to keep Champy in close.
Champy has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Lecter is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Champy defends well.
Champy not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Champy chips away with some ground and pound.
Lecter is pulling down on Champy's head to control his posture.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Uther Champy dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Lecter takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Champy throws a series of punches but Lecter moves out of range.

Lecter gets the takedown into side control.
Champy tries to improve position but can't.
Lecter tries to score with some ground and pound. Champy controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Champy is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Lecter off and has taken his back!
Can Lecter hold on?! Champy is landing more strikes to his hapless foe.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Champy somehow managing to miss with a strike from the back.
Lecter tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!
Lecter wants to control but Champy is having none of it.
Champy lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.


Lecter is rocked!
Champy postures up and throws a couple of big shots that have Lecter in real trouble here! The ref calls for Lecter to improve his position which he doesn't do, so the referee has no choice but to end the fight due to the strikes!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:58 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Uther Champy!
Uther Champy decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
