Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Melendez throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Hillis's waist but Hillis gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Melendez off to one side.
Hillis tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Melendez manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Melendez shoots and misses
and Hillis counters with a nice low kick that buckles Melendez's knee momentarily.
Hillis wants to clinch.
Hillis shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Melendez eats them both and turns towards Hillis to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.

It looks like Damien Melendez has been cut.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Peyton Hillis has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Damien Melendez.
A nice inside leg kick there by Hillis. That's going to slow Melendez down.
Melendez has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by Hillis.
Melendez looks winded!
Hillis cracks the inside of Melendez's front leg.

Hillis lands a big head kick that sends Melendez tumbling to the mat! Hillis takes a step backwards and waves Melendez back to his feet - he wants the finish!
Hillis is looking to slow Melendez down with leg kicks.

Hillis takes the fight into the clinch.

Hillis breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Hillis connects with a jab and follows up with a big overhand right! Oh that's hurt Melendez! He's out on his feet! Hillis rushes in and drops Melendez with another big right hand, forcing the referee to stop the fight!

After the fight, Peyton Hillis was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
