PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Glen Starner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Francois Dubonet (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dubonet has chosen Kevin Chalfant - Hold on to the vision in your eyes as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Glen Starner!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 27 - 22 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Francois Dubonet!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Alan Glass and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dubonet darts in trying to clinch

and Starner counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Starner missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Starner not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Starner moves nicely into side control.
Starner lands some shots froms side control.
Dubonet tries to bench press Starner off him but Starner keeps the position.

Starner is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Dubonet knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Dubonet is looking for a sweep.
Dubonet is not content to let Starner control the position.
The ground and pound from Starner seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.

That's time! Starner's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Dubonet throws a sloppy head kick and Starner moves out of range easily.
That kick from Dubonet tenderised Starner's leg. Starner is trying to keep his angry face on.
Francois Dubonet seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Starner swinging wildly here.
Starner takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Starner checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
Dubonet throws a mid kick that lands with a slap.
Dubonet throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Glen Starner is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Starner shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Dubonet as he jumps to the side.
Dubonet throws a sloppy head kick and Starner moves out of range easily.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Starner crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Dubonet - the referee stops the clock and Starner gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Dubonet. Starner manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.

Starner misses with an uppercut.

Starner drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Dubonet tries to bench press Starner off him but Starner keeps the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Starner throwing strikes but Dubonet manages to buck up and roll into a nice reversal - now he's on top in side control!

Dubonet cracks Starner with a big right hand but Starner just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

Starner has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Starner is looking to regain half guard here but Dubonet keeps moving and retains side control.
Starner can't do much from the bottom here.
Dubonet laying and praying for a moment but Starner takes advantage and regains half guard.
Starner is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Starner is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Dubonet pulls his head out easily.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Dubonet connects with a nice short shot to Starner's temple.

Starner has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Dubonet is working away from the top position though.

Francois Dubonet showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. And we move into the final round!

Dubonet fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Starner.

Starner ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Dubonet moves away.
Dubonet catches Starner with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!

Starner fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Dubonet manages to avoid it.
Starner fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Starner swings for the body but Dubonet moves out of range.

Dubonet throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Starner is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Dubonet.

Starner tries to clinch up but Dubonet circles away and keeps his distance.
Starner tries to score a power double leg takedown but Dubonet sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Starner somewhat.
Starner is really struggling to find his range with his punches. Dubonet's reach advantage is clearly causing him problems.
Dubonet dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Starner. That did some damage!

Dubonet connects with a single shot there.
Dubonet throws a head kick but Starner moves out of range.
Dubonet misses with the combination.
Dubonet fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Starner has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
