PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Dean Marson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rodney Armack (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Marson's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Time Of Dying. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Dean Marson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Rodney Armack!
The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Trevor Gratis and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Marson instigates a clinch.
Marson gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Armack.
Armack fails to pull guard.
Armack is trying to pull guard but Marson has him pressed against the cage.
Dean Marson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rodney Armack.
Armack blocks an elbow strike.
Armack tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.

Marson breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Armack with a poor takedown

so Marson counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Armack being controlled here, momentarily.

Armack had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Marson defends it easily.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Marson pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Armack is keeping the position for now.

Armack bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Marson's guard.

Marson isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Armack stacks Marson on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Armack!
Marson knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Armack on the ground.
Armack throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Marson works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure.
Marson is trying is best to control the position here.

Armack is thwarting Marson's attempts to control the position.
Marson misses with some strikes from the bottom.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Marson drives through with a takedown into guard.
Marson wants to get up but he can't break Armack's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Armack is trying to control the position but Marson postures up.

Marson would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Marson wants to control from the top but Armack keeps moving.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Dean Marson just wasn't active enough.

Armack is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Armack tries to stand but Marson is controlling from the bottom.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Marson looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Armack drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Marson manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Armack has Marson in his guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Marson throws a hook but Armack blocks it.
A head kick misses from Marson.
Armack tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Marson paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Armack gets caught flat footed, as Marson shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Marson stops Armack from standing up.
Marson controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Marson is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Dean Marson has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.

Marson changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Armack looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
A lull in the action here as Marson stalls from top position.

Armack is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Marson's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Armack has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Marson is working away from the top position though.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Armack slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Armack darts in trying to clinch

and Marson counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Marson.
Armack wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Marson has hold of one of Armack's legs. Armack is fighting the takedown attempt but Marson gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

Marson shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Marson was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
A lull in the action here as Marson stalls from top position.

You can see the frustration on Armack's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Marson is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Armack knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Armack is looking to regain half guard here but Marson keeps moving and retains side control.

Armack manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Marson tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Armack has advanced to mount. Uh oh.
Armack can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Marson is looking to escape.

Armack sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!

Marson is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.

Armack is giving the impression that he's looking to ground and pound but he switches suddenly into a beautiful far side armbar! Marson is forced to tap! Great finish!
