PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Shawn Henderson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ben Saunders (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Henderson has a slight injury, which hopefully won't affect the fight too much. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Henderson closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Saunders misses with a short punch on the inside.
Saunders stops a takedown attempt from Henderson.
Henderson is breathing heavily.
Henderson is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Saunders wants to take the fight to the mat but Henderson manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
A frustrated look appears on Saunders's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Henderson is looking to clinch but Saunders is avoiding it.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Henderson.
Saunders has a takedown stuffed.
Saunders fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Henderson avoids it really well and circles away.
Saunders fails to land the takedown.
Saunders takes a body punch but keeps moving.

Henderson looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Saunders tries for a takedown but Henderson sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Henderson pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Henderson tries to clinch up but Saunders circles away and keeps his distance.
Saunders shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Henderson as he jumps to the side.
Henderson jabs Saunders to the body, keeping him at a distance.

Saunders shoots in and gets a takedown into Henderson's guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Saunders tries to stand but Henderson is controlling from the bottom.
Saunders wants to control from the top but Henderson keeps moving.
Saunders's corner is telling him to maintain position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Henderson preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Henderson might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Saunders missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Saunders lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Saunders wants to control from the top but Henderson keeps moving.

Henderson wants to get back to his feet.

Saunders stands up and beckons Henderson to join him on the feet.

Saunders tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Henderson swivels and escapes.
Henderson tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Saunders drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Henderson is looking to stand up but Saunders isn't so interested in that idea.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Saunders throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Saunders is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Saunders is pushing down on Henderson's leg trying to pass to half guard. Henderson is fighting to maintain full guard but Saunders has managed to sneak the leg through.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Saunders is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Henderson turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Henderson manages to end up in side control.

Henderson knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Saunders on the ground.

Saunders is working on a guillotine. He's managed to get to full guard and he's really squeezing tight! Henderson is tapping! Great win for Saunders!
