PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Dean Lister (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Davis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Daniel Franklin and Gwen Towbar.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lister throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Davis's waist but Davis gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Lister off to one side.
Davis on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Davis is looking to land body kicks.

Lister rushes Davis and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Lister gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Lister is pushing down on Davis's leg trying to pass to half guard. Davis is fighting to maintain full guard but Lister has managed to sneak the leg through.
Lister drops an elbow to the side of Davis's head.
Lister passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Davis!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Lister can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Davis is looking to escape.
Lister cracks Davis with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

Lister is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Davis can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Davis tries to hold on but Lister pushes him away.

Lister pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Davis really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Lister. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Lister is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Davis is surviving well by controlling Lister's body position as best he can.

Lister postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Davis looks a forlorn figure.

Lister tries to bum rush Davis with a series of wild strikes but Davis uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Lister fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Davis sprawls well initially but Lister persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Davis tries to kick Lister off in order to stand up. Lister Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.

That's time! Lister's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Lister is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Lister will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Lister shoots in looking for a takedown but Davis manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Lister's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Davis swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Lister.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Lister cracks a nice hook into Davis's ribs.
A left and a right from Lister both land. Nice combination.
Dean Lister seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Davis throws a wild body kick that Lister sees coming a mile off.
Lister looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Davis is fending him off so far but Lister persists. Nope, Davis circles away and we're back to standing.
Davis lets loose with a powerful body kick. Lister will feel that in the morning.

Davis wants to stand but his hand is trapped. Lister uses the opportunity to regain full guard.
Davis wants to get up but he can't break Lister's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Davis throws a big elbow that misses.
Dean Lister overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Davis prevents Lister from getting back to his feet.

Davis drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Lister manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Davis has Lister in his guard.

Lister stands up and beckons Davis to his feet.

Lister throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
A looping hook to the body misses from Davis. Lister does a little dance to reset his feet.
Lister tries a head kick but it misses.
Lister closes this distance looking for a takedown but Davis circles away.
Lister keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
No joy there for Lister, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Davis goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.

Davis throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Lister was covering up waiting for the punch and Davis finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Lister manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Davis manages to get himself to full guard.
Lister wants to control from the top but Davis keeps moving.

Lister drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Lister jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Lister has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Lister is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Davis goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Davis blocks a head kick by Lister.

Lister is looking to wear down Davis with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.
Davis throws a series of punches but Lister avoids them all with ease.

Davis does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.

Lister shoots for a double leg takedown but Davis sprawls well. He's pushed Lister's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Lister takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Dean Lister.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Lister, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
