The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shipman dives in and grabs Powell 's left leg, looking for a takedown. Powell pushes down on Shipman's head and hops out.
Powell closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Shipman missing with punches from the bottom.
Shipman trying to hold on to Powell 's head to control him but Powell postures up.
Shipman manages to get to full guard.
Shipman is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Shipman is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a triangle but Powell frees his head nicely. Oh but Shipman has switched to an armbar! Powell is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!
