PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Peace Braquis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bozidar Hofman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Braquis comes to the cage accompanied by Enter Sandman. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Peace Braquis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Bozidar Hofman!
The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Taro Takaoka and Tatsuya Matsuyama.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hofman checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
Hofman tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
No luck for Braquis with that takedown attempt.
Bozidar Hofman seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Braquis shoots in and gets a takedown into Hofman's guard.
Hofman will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Braquis tries to free his leg and advance position but Hofman is retaining full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Braquis distracts Hofman with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Hofman is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Hofman is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Hofman has eaten all the pies!

Braquis is trying to maintain the position but Hofman is very close to passing his half guard.
Hofman is looking to take a break and control but Braquis is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Hofman must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Braquis is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Hofman defends well.
Hofman is looking to work some ground and pound but Braquis has wrist control.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Hofman accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Braquis working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Hofman doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Hofman manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Hofman postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Braquis is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Hofman, into his guard.
Braquis will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Braquis drops back looking for a leg! Hofman is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Hofman manages to kick Braquis off! Braquis jumps back into Hofman's guard.

We're going to have a standup here because Peace Braquis wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Hofman tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Braquis counters with a head kick. That will keep Hofman thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!
Hofman shoots in looking for a takedown but Braquis manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Hofman's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Braquis dives in and scores a takedown into Hofman's guard.

Hofman looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Braquis lands a couple of digs.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Braquis is pushing down on Hofman's leg trying to pass to half guard. Hofman is fighting to maintain full guard but Braquis has managed to sneak the leg through.
Braquis seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Hofman does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Peace Braquis dominated that round.
That's time! Braquis's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Braquis fails with the takedown.
Hofman misses with a takedown attempt - Braquis sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Braquis feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Hofman wants to stand but Braquis is controlling the position.

Hofman looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Hofman is looking for a triangle but Braquis pushes his legs off easily.

Braquis drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Braquis jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Braquis stays in close to Hofman's body and controls the position.

Braquis stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Hofman swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Hofman is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Hofman is breathing heavily.

Braquis postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Hofman is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Braquis, into his guard.
Hofman won't allow Braquis to sweep him here.

Braquis trying to keep a closed guard but Hofman is proving a slippery customer.
Braquis lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Hofman!
Hofman is just holding on here. Braquis manages to take his back.

Hofman is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Braquis gets his way!

Braquis is persistently looking for the submission but Hofman is defending it well.

Hofman is being controlled on the ground here - he must escape this position otherwise surely the end is near.

Braquis is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.

Braquis is not going to allow Hofman to sit and survive in this position.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Peace Braquis dominated that second round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Braquis manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Hofman manages to get himself to full guard.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Braquis's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Braquis gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Hofman throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Hofman fails with an attempt to clinch.

Hofman closes the distance and clinches.
Braquis jumps guard but Hofman turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Hofman tries to pull guard but Braquis won't allow it.

Braquis's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Hofman looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Braquis is fending him off so far but Hofman persists. Nope, Braquis circles away and we're back to standing.
Hofman takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Hofman misses with a body kick.
Hofman moves to clinch but Braquis breaks away
and Braquis counters with a two punch combo.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Braquis fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Hofman avoids it really well and circles away.

Hofman tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Braquis paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Hofman throws a series of punches but Braquis avoids them all with ease.

Braquis shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Braquis passes Hofman's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Braquis is pressing down on Hofman's thigh, looking to free his foot. Hofman is holding on for now.

Braquis is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Hofman is just riding it out for now. Braquis eventually gives up the hold.
Braquis is taking a breather. Hofman says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Braquis winds up and cracks Hofman with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Braquis wants to free his trapped foot but Hofman is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Bozidar Hofman has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Peace Braquis is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

And that's the end of the fight!
Peace Braquis showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Braquis, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
