Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Calvin Pegues (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and George Qura (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Qura has chosen Alexisonfire - Young Cardinals as his entrance music. George Qura has the eye of the tiger tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Calvin Pegues!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, George Qura!
The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, Steve Montenegro and Jorge Garcia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Qura has Pegues up against the cage in a clinch.

Qura breaks the clinch.
Qura lands with a slapping head kick.
Pegues throws a leg kick but Qura sees it coming and checks it nicely.

Qura closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Pegues drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Qura looking for a takedown here - he's got it.

Pegues looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Pegues is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Qura wants to control from the top but Pegues keeps moving.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Qura clinches up against the cage.
Pegues jumps guard but Qura stands there with Pegues around his waist. Pegues gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Pegues wants to break free but Qura has control.

Qura wants the takedown. Pegues is fighting it off but Qura persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Pegues's guard against the cage.

Pegues looking for a sweep. Not yet Pegues, not yet.
Qura tries to free his leg and advance position but Pegues is retaining full guard.
Pegues tries to strike from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Pegues keeping moving, preventing Qura from controlling successfully.
Qura must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Pegues is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Pegues changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Qura tries to avoid it but Pegues manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Qura to the ground. Qura escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Qura scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
Qura throws a right and a left that Pegues avoids nicely.

Qura fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.

and Qura counters with a nice double leg into side control. Pegues won't be happy with that.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

Qura wants to control for a moment but Pegues uses the opportunity to move back to half guard.

Qura wants to improve his position but Pegues is controlling well.

Pegues moves nicely into side control.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Pegues stands up and beckons Qura to his feet.
Qura swats away the attempt to clinch by Pegues.

Qura closes the distance and clinches.
Pegues wants to break free but Qura has control.
Pegues tries for a takedown. No joy.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Calvin Pegues. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Pegues is looking to break free of the clinch but Qura has double underhooks.
Pegues's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!

Qura looks to land a combination. Pegues sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Qura buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Qura scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!

Pegues throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Pegues tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Qura counters by moving into the clinch.

Qura jumps guard.
Pegues stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Qura swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Pegues postures up in Qura's guard and throws a big left but Qura blocks it.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

George Qura showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Pegues's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

Qura drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Qura takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Qura is fighting to break Pegues's control of his arms but Pegues is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Pegues throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Qura escapes and throws Pegues's legs to the side, diving into side control!

Pegues sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Qura tries to pass the half guard into mount. Pegues knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Pegues is looking for a sweep. Qura is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Qura seems to be looking for submissions.
Pegues is looking to control Qura's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Pegues avoid being mounted?

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

George Qura has got the better of the ground game so far.

Qura gets to his feet. Pegues looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Pegues takes a swing at Qura's ribcage but misses.
Pegues connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Calvin Pegues. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Horrible takedown by Qura or perhaps it was just good defense by Pegues which made him look bad.
Pegues shoots for a double leg takedown but Qura sprawls well. He's pushed Pegues's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Pegues shoots in and bounces Qura off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Pegues is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Qura is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Calvin Pegues has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Qura moves into range and connects with a jab.

George Qura comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Qura has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
