PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Matt Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kiko Kaluma (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kaluma has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. Both fighters look pumped up here. Let's hope this is a good fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Matt Smith!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 15 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Kiko Kaluma!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Sano, Yukihiro Shimada and Taro Takaoka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith moves to clinch but Kaluma breaks away

and Kaluma counters with a nice double leg into guard.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Kaluma stopping the sweep attempt from Smith.
Smith knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Kaluma on the ground.
Kaluma throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Smith works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Smith wants to get back to his feet but Kaluma is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Smith seems keen to control Kaluma's posture.
Smith is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Kaluma accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Kaluma thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Kaluma is working Smith over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Smith is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Smith pulls Kaluma in close to prevent any damage.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Matt Smith just wasn't active enough.

Smith is trying to control the position but Kaluma postures up.

Kaluma is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Smith looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Smith tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Smith is working hard here to advance position.

Kaluma works a leg free and moves into half guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Smith has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Kaluma is working away from the top position though.
Smith is trying to stand back up but Kaluma is controlling him
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kiko Kaluma dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Kaluma wants to get back to striking at distance but Smith won't allow it.

Kaluma is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Kaluma has Smith pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Smith manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Smith tries to clinch but Kaluma is having none of it.

Kaluma is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Smith has Kaluma pressed against the cage. He pushes Kaluma back and as he springs towards him off the cage, Smith throws a beautiful elbow that sends Kaluma crashing to the floor! Smith piles on the pressure with more strikes! Kaluma is flailing away but he's not defending himself and the referee steps in to stop the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Matt Smith!
