Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Billy Rockford (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Wes Sloggett (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rockford's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Build Your Kingdom Here. Wes Sloggett has the eye of the tiger tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Billy Rockford!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Wes Sloggett!
The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Josh West and Chris Saunders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rockford tries for a takedown but Sloggett sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Billy Rockford seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Sloggett scores with a kick to the body.
Rockford shoots and misses
and Sloggett counters with a nice low kick that buckles Rockford's knee momentarily.

Rockford throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Sloggett was covering up waiting for the punch and Rockford finishes the takedown easily into guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Sloggett is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Sloggett decides to stand up.
Rockford misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Rockford looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Sloggett is fending him off so far but Rockford persists. Nope, Sloggett circles away and we're back to standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Billy Rockford. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Sloggett clinches up against the cage.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Sloggett has picked Rockford up - he's going for a ride! Sloggett dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.

Sloggett seems to be working for a kimura but Rockford defends the submission attempt.

Sloggett postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Rockford to stand up.
Rockford tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Sloggett counters with a low kick, right behind Rockford 's knee.
Rockford walks into a stiff left hand from Sloggett.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Sloggett.

Rockford shoots for a takedown but Sloggett saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Sloggett shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Rockford eats them both and turns towards Sloggett to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.

That kick from Sloggett tenderised Rockford's leg. Rockford is trying to keep his angry face on.
Sloggett goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Rockford misses the body punch
and Sloggett makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
Sloggett feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Rockford's calf.
Rockford tries to clinch
and Sloggett counters with a slapping leg kick.
Rockford tries to close the distance and clinch but Sloggett swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Sloggett lands with a slapping head kick.
Rockford takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Rockford leaves Sloggett with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Sloggett throws a head kick but Rockford moves out of range.

Sloggett looks for a takedown but Rockford sprawls well.
Sloggett looks winded!
Rockford misses with a double jab.
Sloggett with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Rockford tries to clinch up

and Sloggett counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Rockford's guard now.
Rockford looking to hit a scissor sweep but Sloggett is one step ahead there.
Sloggett controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Sloggett pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Rockford is keeping the position for now.

Sloggett decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Rockford, up you get!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Sloggett throws a combination that misses
and Rockford counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
Rockford tries to bum rush Sloggett with a series of wild strikes but Sloggett uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Sloggett.
Sloggett shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Rockford eats them both and turns towards Sloggett to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Rockford closes the distance looking to clinch
and Sloggett counters with a head kick. That will keep Rockford thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Wes Sloggett dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Rockford throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Sloggett's waist but Sloggett gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Rockford off to one side.
Rockford is looking to clinch.
Rockford tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Sloggett manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Rockford throws a right and a left that both miss.
Rockford throws a series of punches but Sloggett avoids them all with ease.
Sloggett scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
Sloggett shoots in for a double leg but Rockford sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Rockford tries to close the distance and clinch up but Sloggett swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Rockford throws a right hand that Sloggett ducks under and follows up with a left that Sloggett also avoids with ease.
Rockford ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Sloggett moves away.
Wes Sloggett seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Sloggett clinches with his opponent.

Rockford tries to score a body lock takedown but Sloggett shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Rockford is looking for a takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Billy Rockford. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Rockford throws a head punch that misses.

Sloggett breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Sloggett closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rockford tries to bench press Sloggett off him but Sloggett keeps the position.

Sloggett decides to stand up, so the ref orders Rockford to his feet.
Rockford is hobbling a little on that front leg after taking quite a few leg kicks so far in this fight.
A head kick from Sloggett lands but Rockford takes it in his stride.
Rockford shoots in for a takedown but Sloggett shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Rockford has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Sloggett.

Sloggett shoots in and bounces Rockford off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Sloggett stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Sloggett dives in and grabs Rockford's left leg, looking for a takedown. Rockford pushes down on Sloggett's head and hops out.

Rockford tries to bench press Sloggett off him but Sloggett keeps the position.

Sloggett stands up and beckons Rockford to his feet.
Sloggett tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Rockford swivels and escapes.

Sloggett takes the fight into the clinch.

Sloggett gets control of Rockford's arms and successfully pulls guard. Sloggett will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Rockford throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Rockford wants to stand but Sloggett has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Sloggett is pulling down on Rockford's head. It's preventing any offense from Rockford, at least for the moment.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Wes Sloggett showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Rockford's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


Rockford keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Sloggett drives through with a takedown into Rockford's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Rockford escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Sloggett gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Rockford is working an open guard so Sloggett takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Rockford closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Rockford misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Sloggett circles away from the clinch attempt.
Rockford keeps the fight on the outside.
Rockford tries to clinch but Sloggett is having none of it.
Sloggett shoots for a takedown but Rockford saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Rockford is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Sloggett.
A head kick misses from Rockford.
Rockford circles away from the clinch attempt.

Sloggett moves into range and clinches up with Rockford.

Sloggett pulls Rockford into guard.
Rockford working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Sloggett is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Rockford wants to stand and escape but instead Sloggett has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Sloggett is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Sloggett decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Sloggett closes the distance and pushes Rockford back into the cage.
Rockford has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Sloggett is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Rockford has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Sloggett uses from the top position.
Sloggett controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Rockford is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Rockford shoots in for a takedown but Sloggett shows good takedown defense.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Sloggett fakes the leg kick and cracks Rockford in the body.
Sloggett fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Billy Rockford has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Wes Sloggett is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Billy Rockford has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Wes Sloggett.

Sloggett changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Rockford looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

And that's the end of the fight!
Wes Sloggett comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Sloggett has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
