The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A punch combination from Smith misses.
Smith avoids a punch combination nicely.
Thompson throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Smith.
Smith throws an overhand right that lands on Thompson's shoulder, as Thompson tries to avoid the shot.

Thompson takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.

Thompson shoots in looking for a takedown but Smith manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Thompson's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
John Smith is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Thompson uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.

Smith tries to push off, looking to stand up, but Thompson manages to move to mount!

Thompson tries to control but Smith wriggling away.

Thompson has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Smith can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Thompson looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Smith is defending well. Thompson quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Smith has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Thompson celebrates on the ropes, with the crowd.

After the fight, John Thompson was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
