The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Robert Douchet and Steve Smith.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
De La Rue is looking to clinch.
De La Rue fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
De La Rue tries to clinch there but Gomez circles away.
De La Rue misses with a lunging right hand
and Gomez counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Gomez.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Gomez working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
De La Rue wants to stand but Gomez is controlling the position.
De La Rue controls Gomez momentarily but Gomez frees himself.
De La Rue wants to stand up but Gomez is controlling him.
Gomez postures up.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Maurice De La Rue.
Gomez clinches with his opponent.
That's one minute gone in the round.
De La Rue is fighting off a takedown attempt but Gomez is just too persistent for him and manages to trip De La Rue to the mat. De La Rue regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Gomez seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
De La Rue has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Gomez doesn't defend quickly enough and De La Rue has managed to lock this one up! Can Gomez escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to De La Rue on a fantastic submission victory.
