PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Patrick Cote (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Casy Carver (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Casy Carver will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Patrick Cote!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Casy Carver!
The judges for this bout are , Timothy Bukovac and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cote shoots in and drives through. Carver sprawls well.
Cote tries to clinch but Carver moves away
and Carver counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Carver looks to land a combination. Cote sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Carver keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.

Carver has managed to clinch.
Cote is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Carver pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Carver breaks the clinch.
Patrick Cote seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Carver moves into range and clinches up with Cote.
Cote drops down looking for an ankle pick but Carver pulls his leg out and moves away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Patrick Cote. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Cote tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Carver cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Horrible takedown by Cote or perhaps it was just good defense by Carver which made him look bad.
Cote thows a leg kick but Carver checks it
and Cote takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

Carver tries to clinch up.
Cote fails with a takedown attempt.
Carver shoots in but Cote avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Carver dives in and grabs Cote's left leg, looking for a takedown. Cote pushes down on Carver's head and hops out.
Cote shoots in and drives through. Carver sprawls well.
Carver stuffs the takedown attempt from Cote. Cote gets slowly back to his feet.
Carver avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
A low kick from Cote is predictable there
and Carver counters with a series of strikes. Cote will be more careful next time no doubt.

Cote shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Cote looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Cote wants to lay and pray for a moment but Carver keeps working.
Cote content to control rather than advance.
Cote sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Carver defending well though.

Carver is trying to get back to full guard.
Carver is not content to let Cote control the position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Patrick Cote.

Cote clinches.
Cote jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Carver walks away with a smile on his face. Cote gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Cote shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Carver but Carver pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Cote wants to clinch.
Carver stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Carver wants it to stay on the feet.

Cote misses with a leg kick
and Carver counters with a nice uppercut.
Horrible takedown by Cote or perhaps it was just good defense by Carver which made him look bad.
Cote fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Carver is out of range.
Carver is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Cote.
Nice takedown defense from Carver. No joy for Cote on that attempt.

Carver forces Cote back against the cage and clinches.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Cote wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Cote goes for a takedown in the clinch but Carver prevents it.
Cote is working for takedown but Carver is calmly controlling the position for now.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Patrick Cote will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Carver stuffs the takedown.
No luck for Cote with that takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Patrick Cote. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Carver moves into the clinch.
Carver scores a nice knee to the body.
Carver tries to pull guard but Cote forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Cote has Carver pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Carver manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Cote tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Carver just stands there and leans against the cage.

Carver breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Cote throws a sloppy head kick
and Carver counters with a big head kick but Cote shrugs it off.
Cote tries for a takedown but Carver sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Carver shoots in for a takedown but Cote shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
A punch combination from Carver misses.
Cote tries to clinch but Carver moves away
and Carver counters with a nice uppercut.
Carver shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Cote pinned against the cage. Cote gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Cote gets tackled into the cage by Carver. Carver maintains the clinch.
Cote tries to pull guard but Carver holds him up against the cage and eventually Cote drops back down to his feet.
Cote has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Carver after a bit of a struggle.
Cote stalling in the clinch but Carver improves position.

Cote missing with knees to the body.
Cote is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Carver to keep the fight standing.
Carver scores a nice knee to the body.

Carver decides to pull guard.
Cote missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Cote is in close to Carver's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Cote has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Cote slips nicely into half guard, despite the strikes coming from Carver.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Cote is working for a kimura but Carver is defending it quite comfortably.
Carver keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Cote lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

Cote trying to control the action but Carver is working from the bottom.
Carver is trying to get back to full guard.

Cote throwing shots but Carver is blocking nicely.
Cote missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Cote is trying to control. Carver wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Carver tries to push off, looking to stand up, but Cote manages to move to mount!
Cote pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.


Carver is rocked!


It looks like Casy Carver has been cut.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Cote is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Carver has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Carver!
Carver must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Cote is looking to stand up but Carver isn't so interested in that idea.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Patrick Cote dominated that second round.
The cut man is working on Casy Carver's cut.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!



Carver moves into the clinch.

Carver manages to break the clinch.

Carver clinches up with Cote and pushes him back against the cage.

Carver escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Cote doesn't manage to clinch there - Carver circles away.
Carver tries to clinch there but Cote circles away.
Cote changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Carver tries to avoid it but Cote manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Carver to the ground. Carver escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Carver leaves Cote with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Cote tries to clinch but Carver moves out of range.
Carver has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.
Cote shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Carver as he avoids it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Patrick Cote. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Cote fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Carver lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.

Carver has managed to clinch.

Carver breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Cote darts in trying to clinch
and Carver connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

Carver has closed the distance and engaged Cote in a clinch.
Carver gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Cote.
Cote is trying to drag Carver to the mat but Carver just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

A right hand to the body from Carver.
Cote has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Carver is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Carver breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
A punch combination from Carver misses.
Cote shoots in looking for a takedown but Carver manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Cote's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Cote.

Carver moves into the clinch.
Cote goes for a takedown in the clinch but Carver prevents it.

Carver drags the fight down to the ground.

Cote is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Carver is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Carver has escaped and now he's on top!
Carver stays in close to Cote's body and controls the position.
Cote is trying to control the position but Carver postures up.
Patrick Cote is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Carver throwing strikes from guard but Cote blocks nicely.
Cote preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Carver wants to stand and escape but instead Cote has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Cote wants to control from the top but Carver keeps moving.
Casy Carver has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Carver looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Cote has picked Carver up and slammed him! Carver can't keep hold of the triangle and Cote manages to pass to side control!

And that's the end of the fight!
Casy Carver comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Cote has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
