PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Ballard Magnar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alf Alfa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Alfa is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Jiu Jitsu - Smoke Serpent. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Ballard Magnar!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Alf Alfa!
The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Robert Douchet and Yves DeLean.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Alfa lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Magnar has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Magnar and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
Alfa changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Magnar tries to avoid it but Alfa manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Magnar to the ground. Magnar escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Alfa is looking to land body kicks.
Alfa fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Alfa on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Magnar. Magnar obviously looking to wear him down.
Alfa tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Magnar counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Magnar scores with a nice strike.
Alfa shoots in but Magnar avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Ballard Magnar has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Alf Alfa.
Alfa misses with a takedown attempt - Magnar sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
A bone on bone clash there as Magnar blocks the leg kick.
Alfa closes this distance looking for a takedown but Magnar circles away.
Horrible takedown by Alfa or perhaps it was just good defense by Magnar which made him look bad.
Magnar lands with a good body shot.

Alfa takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.

Magnar tests Alfa's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Magnar scores with the left hand. Alfa knows he should have avoided that one.
Some bone on bone action there as Magnar checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Alfa shoots in for a takedown but Magnar shows good takedown defense.
Magnar changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Magnar lunges at Alfa with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Alfa's hand.
Alfa looks to clinch
and Magnar counters with a one-two to the body.
Magnar catches Alfa with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
This has been an exciting period of action!

Magnar tries to sprawl but Alfa drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Alfa looks winded!
Magnar keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Magnar is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Alfa works his foot free and advances to mount.
Alfa unloading with bombs!

Alfa trying to control but Magnar is having none of it.
Alfa wants to take his opponent's back but Magnar doesn't allow it.
Magnar has given up his back here. Will Alfa look for the submission or keep pounding away?
Magnar knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Alfa on the ground.

Alfa looking to break Magnar's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Magnar remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Alfa will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!

Alfa is looking for a rear naked choke here but Magnar reverses the position brilliantly into Alfa's guard!
Alfa looking to hit a scissor sweep but Magnar is one step ahead there.

Alfa escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Magnar gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Magnar sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Alfa's guard.

Alfa is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Magnar pulls his head out easily.
Alfa is refusing to be controlled, as Magnar sits in half guard.
Alfa wants to control but Magnar is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Magnar is keen to just control but Alfa is a slippery customer.
Magnar tries to pass the half guard into mount. Alfa knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Alfa looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Magnar is pressing down on Alfa's thigh, looking to free his foot. Alfa is holding on for now.

Alfa tries to get to full guard but Magnar has control of the leg.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Magnar in particular looking to stall.

Alfa looking for submissions off his back.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Alfa is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Ballard Magnar will probably get the nod.
That's time! Magnar's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Magnar throws a nice inside leg kick.
Alfa shoots in for a takedown but Magnar shows good takedown defense.
The fighters circle momentarily. Magnar darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Ballard Magnar is winning the standup battle so far.
Magnar paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Magnar scores with a one two! Alfa had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
A cross from Magnar lands.
Alfa throws a leg kick
and Magnar counters with a good low kick that Alfa was not able to check.
Alfa fails to land the takedown.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Magnar stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Alfa misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Ballard Magnar has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Alf Alfa.
Alfa takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Alfa will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Alfa stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Magnar.

Alf Alfa seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Alfa is breathing heavily.

Magnar connects with a leg kick. Alfa looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Magnar works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.

Alfa is rocked!
Alfa walks right into a perfectly timed right hook and goes down hard! He's out cold! The ref cradles Alfa limp body while Magnar jumps on to the cage and waves to the roaring crowd. Wow that was just a brutal knockout!

A relieved looking Ballard Magnar thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
