PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Six Shooter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Whitepride Velasquez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Shooter comes to the cage accompanied by DJ Antoine - Ma Cherie. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Whitepride Velasquez was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 18 - 9 - 0, fighting out of New York, Six Shooter!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Whitepride Velasquez!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, George Francis and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Velasquez takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Shooter is looking to clinch but Velasquez is avoiding it.
Shooter is looking to clinch.
Six Shooter seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Shooter throws an off balance right hand
enabling Velasquez to counter with a crisp jab.
Shooter wants to clinch.
Shooter dips down and scores with a jab to the body.

Velasquez blocks a head kick by Shooter.
Shooter tries to clinch up.

Shooter clinches with his opponent.
A short left from Velasquez.
Shooter looking to slow down the pace here.
Shooter misses with a punch to the body.
Shooter swings wildly with an uppercut but Velasquez uses good head movement to avoid it.
Shooter tries to work over Velasquez's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.

Velasquez misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Shooter misses with some punches.
Shooter trying to stall but Velasquez improves his position.
Shooter misses with a body punch.
Shooter misses with a hook to the ribs.
Velasquez prevents a body shot from Shooter.
Still in the clinch, Shooter scores with a nice short uppercut.
Shooter is looking to control Velasquez's arms but Velasquez gets an underhook and turns him. Now Shooter has his back to the cage.

Velasquez manages to pull guard.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Shooter being controlled here momentarily.
Let's hope that Velasquez has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Velasquez is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Velasquez is controlling the pace.
Velasquez throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Velasquez trying to control from half guard but Shooter is working away.

Velasquez is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Shooter doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Velasquez.
Velasquez is pressing down on Shooter's thigh, looking to free his foot. Shooter is holding on for now.

Velasquez passes to full mount!
Shooter can't escape the position.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Shooter tries to lock up and control but Velasquez gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Velasquez takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Velasquez throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Shooter because Velasquez loaded up on that one.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Whitepride Velasquez will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Shooter throws a right hand that misses

and Velasquez counters with a takedown into side control.
Shooter trying his best to control but Velasquez has mounted him.
Shooter is squirming around, avoiding Velasquez's attempts to control the action.
Velasquez takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Shooter slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Shooter is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Shooter might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Velasquez is working for a submission of some sort.

Velasquez stalling.
Velasquez trying to control from Shooter's half guard. Shooter has other ideas though and has regained full guard.
Velasquez stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Shooter swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Velasquez wants to control from the top but Shooter keeps moving.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Shooter manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Velasquez manages to get himself to full guard.

Velasquez has his foot on Shooter's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Shooter works his way back into a safe position though.

Shooter avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Shooter drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Shooter jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Shooter working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Velasquez looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Whitepride Velasquez has got the better of the ground game so far.
Shooter throws a big right hand that misses.
Shooter with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Shooter postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Velasquez is trying to control the position but Shooter postures up.
Shooter has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Whitepride Velasquez showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

The fight stays on the outside here - Shooter looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Velasquez avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Shooter clinches up with Velasquez and pushes him back against the cage.
Velasquez gets underhooks to prevent Shooter's takedown attempt.
Velasquez tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Shooter's elbow.

A nice right hand lands inside from Shooter.
Shooter tries to work over Velasquez's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Shooter misses with a short punch on the inside.

It looks like Six Shooter has been cut.
Velasquez lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Velasquez ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Velasquez no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Velasquez bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Shooter's guard.
Shooter not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Six Shooter has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Velasquez throws a big right hand that misses.

Shooter sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Velasquez's guard.
Velasquez is trying to get back to full guard.
Shooter trying to control the action but Velasquez is working from the bottom.
Velasquez wants to improve his position but Shooter is controlling well.
Shooter thows a huge punch but Velasquez dodges it nicely.

Shooter throws an elbow that misses. Velasquez uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Shooter's guard. Nice move by Velasquez!

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Shooter looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Velasquez with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Six Shooter.
I think Velasquez has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
