PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Joe Alves (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lenny Eye (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Joe Alves!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Lenny Eye!
The judges for this bout are James Glass, William Gold and Steven Brown.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice sprawl there from Eye as Alves shoots in.

Alves has managed to clinch.
Eye wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Eye jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Alves walks away with a smile on his face. Eye gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Eye throws a head kick but Alves moves out of range.
Alves throws a sloppy head kick
enabling Eye to counter with a crisp jab.
Alves tries for a takedown but Eye sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Eye throws a head kick but Alves moves out of range.

Alves closes the distance and clinches.
Alves is looking to break free of the clinch but Eye has double underhooks.

Alves has clasped his hands together around Eye's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

Alves thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Alves tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Alves is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Eye tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Alves wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Eye gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
Eye tries to reverse the position but Alves maintains control.
Alves looking to control and managing it successfully.
Alves is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Eye can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Alves controlling from the full mount.
Alves postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Eye looks a forlorn figure.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Eye is wriggling around trying to escape.
Alves raining down hammerfists from mount.
Alves avoids the attempt from Eye to control.
Alves looking to finish Eye with some ground and pound. This is bad for Eye!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Eye is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Alves controlling the pace for now.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Alves seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Eye for as long as he can get away with.
Eye is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Eye has given up his back here.
Alves just keeping the dominant position. He can't wait too long though, otherwise the referee will stand them back up.
Alves gets his hands free as Eye looks to control.
Eye really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Alves. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
You can see the frustration on Eye's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
Alves is punishing Eye with strikes - can he finish him?!

Alves working for a RNC but it's not happening just yet.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Alves gets his hands free as Eye looks to control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Joe Alves dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Alves shoots in looking for a takedown. Eye tries to sprawl out of it but Alves keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Eye manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Eye lands a high kick!
Alves takes a jab right on the kisser.
Alves closes the distance and clinches up with Eye, looking for a takedown. Alves pushes Eye against the cage but Eye circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Alves is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Eye's half guard.

Eye has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Alves is working away from the top position though.
Eye wants to get back to full guard but Alves has passed into side control.

Alves decides to stand up, so the ref orders Eye to his feet.
Eye throws a head kick but Alves moves out of range.
Joe Alves seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Alves closes the distance and clinches.
Alves tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Eye just stands there and leans against the cage.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Joe Alves. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Alves is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Eye to keep the fight standing.

Eye has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Alves drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Alves has Eye pressed against the cage, preventing Eye from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Alves wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Eye has him pressed against the cage.

Both fighters working to control the clinch.
Eye looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Eye wants to break free but Alves has control.
Eye is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
A frustrated look appears on Eye's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Eye is trying to push Alves away but Alves has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.

Eye breaks from the clinch.
Alves rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Eye moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
A head kick by Alves misses
and Eye connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Eye throws a series of punches but Alves moves out of range.
Eye scores with a nice body kick.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Eye feints a jab promting Alves to slip. Eye then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Alves slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Eye goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Alves shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Eye sprawls well. Eye wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Alves gets slowly back to his feet.
Alves takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Eye misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Alves tries to score a power double leg takedown but Eye sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Alves somewhat.
Crunch! Eye slams his shin into Alves's torso.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Eye lands with a slapping head kick.
Eye slaps away a takedown attempt from Alves, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Lenny Eye seems to be getting the better of the standup.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Eye tries to clinch up but Alves circles away and keeps his distance.
Lenny Eye is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Eye bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Alves's head backwards.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Lenny Eye showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!



Eye lands a big head kick that sends Alves tumbling to the mat! Eye takes a step backwards and waves Alves back to his feet - he wants the finish!


Alves is rocked!
This has been an exciting period of action!
Eye throws a right hand that Alves ducks under and follows up with a left that Alves also avoids with ease.
Eye throws a head kick that misses.
Alves closes this distance looking for a takedown but Eye circles away.
Eye sizes up Alves with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.

Alves has managed to clinch.
Alves slows down the pace here.
Alves changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Eye fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Alves fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Eye avoids it really well and circles away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Joe Alves. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Eye throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Eye misses with a takedown attempt - Alves sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Eye moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.

Some wild striking there from Eye.
Alves throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Eye.
Eye misses with a head kick.
Eye throws a head kick that misses.
Eye blocks a head kick by Alves.
Alves shoots in but Eye avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Eye lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Eye.

Nice straight punches there by Eye. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Eye.
Eye throws a head kick that Alves semi-blocks.
Oh Alves is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Alves is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Alves seems to have got his legs back now.
Eye scores with a one two! Alves had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Eye throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Eye dodges the punch combination from Alves.
Eye throws a sloppy head kick and Alves moves out of range easily.
Alves takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Eye pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Eye displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination.
Eye changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
A left and a right from Eye both land. Nice combination.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Alves takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Eye plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!
Alves changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Eye tries to avoid it but Alves manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Eye to the ground. Eye escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Eye scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Eye lands a nice hook to Alves's body. Alves takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Eye throws a head kick but Alves moves out of range.

And that's the end of the fight!
Lenny Eye comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Eye has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
