PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Fedor Overeem (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Caio Cesar Caprillo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Overeem comes to the cage accompanied by Shadows Fall - Still I Rise. Caprillo has chosen The Beatles - Here Comes The Sun as his entrance music. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Fedor Overeem!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 22 - 22 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Caio Cesar Caprillo!
The judges for this bout are Aafke Stam, Albert Achterberg and Daniel Blasius.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Overeem throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Caprillo counters with a shoot takedown. Overeem fights it but they end up in guard.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Overeem keeping full guard, as Caprillo tries to pass.
Caprillo throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Overeem works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Overeem might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Overeem wants to stand but Caprillo is controlling the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Caprillo trying to control but Overeem is working from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's one minute gone in the round.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Caio Cesar Caprillo hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
No joy there for Overeem, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Overeem wants to clinch up but Caprillo keeps it at a distance.
Overeem throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Caprillo holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Overeem drops down looking for an ankle pick but Caprillo pulls his leg out and moves away.

Caprillo shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Overeem keeping full guard, as Caprillo tries to pass.

Caprillo drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Overeem manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Caprillo has Overeem in his guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Caprillo looking to control.
Caprillo wants to sweep but no luck.
Overeem wants to stand but Caprillo has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Caprillo looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Overeem passes into half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Caprillo is looking for a sweep. Overeem is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Overeem tries to stand but can't do so whilst Caprillo controls his leg.

Caprillo makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Caprillo.
Overeem wants to stand but Caprillo is controlling his posture from full guard.
Caprillo tries to land a sweep but no joy.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Caprillo manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Overeem manages to get himself to full guard.
Overeem is looking to stand up but Caprillo isn't so interested in that idea.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Caio Cesar Caprillo dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Overeem tries to clinch there but Caprillo circles away.
Overeem fails with an attempt to clinch.
Overeem just misses with a punch to the body.
Fedor Overeem is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Overeem misses with a body shot.
Overeem throws a series of punches but Caprillo moves out of range.
Overeem throws a sloppy head kick
and Caprillo counters with a one-two to the body.

and Caprillo counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Overeem!
Caprillo is chipping away with strikes.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Caprillo is working for what looks like an arm triangle here. Overeem is trying to escape and Caprillo transitions quickly into an armbar! He's slapped it on tight and Overeem is forced to tap! Nice work there by Caprillo! Very nice indeed!

An out of breath Caio Cesar Caprillo thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
