Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Opie River (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jack Howl (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Opie River!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jack Howl!
The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, Franklyn Lucas and Steve Montenegro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Howl closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
River is not content to let Howl control the position.
Howl works to advance to full mount. River defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.
Howl scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish River?
Howl prevents River from getting the reversal.
Howl controlling from the full mount.
River is trying desperately to improve position.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Howl wants to control the pace but River is squirming around nicely.

That's one minute gone in the round.
River tries to hold on but Howl pushes him away.
River slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Howl really doesn't want to stay on the ground with River. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
River moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Howl is pushing down on River's leg trying to pass to half guard. River is fighting to maintain full guard but Howl has managed to sneak the leg through.
Howl tries to pass to full mount but River defends it.
Howl is taking a breather. River says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Howl trying to control from half guard but River is working away.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
River is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
River is working hard here to advance position.
River is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Howl's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Howl's back!

River looking to break Howl's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Howl remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise River will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
River controlling well, preventing Howl from escaping the position.

Howl is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if River gets his way!

River has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Howl has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

River patiently working for the choke. Which fighter will keep their nerve here?

River is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Howl defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.

River has the hooks in and he's looking for a rear naked choke here. Howl is defending well but eventually River manages to get an arm under the chin and he's locked on the RNC! Howl has no choice but to tap now! He does! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Opie River!
An out of breath Opie River thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
