PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between David Cross (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Connor (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cross comes to the cage accompanied by The American Dream Song. Connor is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Ça vaut mieux que d'attraper la scarlatine by Ray Venture. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 30 - 18 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, John Connor!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Trevor Gratis and Dillan Fox.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Connor lands an overhand right.
Connor misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Connor shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Cross defends it nicely.
Connor takes one on the button.
A telegraphed right hand from Cross misses the target.
Connor throws a body punch but Cross moves out of range.
Connor throws a lazy right hand but Cross sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Connor throws a combination that misses
and Cross counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Cross scores with a one two! Connor had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.


It looks like John Connor has been cut.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Connor swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Connor throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Cross counters with a left and a right that stings Connor.
Connor misses the jab.
Sloppy strikes from Cross. Those never looked like landing.
Cross takes a shot right to the bread basket.

A decent looking cross lands there for Cross.

Cross drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Connor is trying to control Cross's posture but Cross avoids it.

Connor is working to avoid the ground and pound but Cross connects with a decent elbow.
Cross lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Connor down.
Connor is looking to reverse the position.

Cross misses with an attempted head punch from side control.
Connor is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
Connor takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
Cross is putting a hurting on Connor here, landing some big shots from side control.
Connor is looking to regain half guard here but Cross keeps moving and retains side control.

Cross is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Connor is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Cross lands a nice short elbow.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Cross ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Connor moves away.
Connor throws a series of punches but Cross avoids them all with ease.
Connor stalks Cross and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Cross's face. Cross staggers backwards, shaken.

Cross is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.

John Connor is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Cross throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Connor is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.

Connor smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Connor rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Cross moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Connor uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Cross.

Cross stuns Connor with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Cross moves away from the strike by Connor.
Cross connects with a good right hand that stumbles Connor. Connor circles away out of range and recomposes himself.

Connor throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Cross.

Cross buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Connor is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Cross.
Cross does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.

Connor is rocked!
Connor throws a hook but Cross blocks it.
Cross is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Connor can do to turn this around?
Connor has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Cross.
Cross bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Connor's head.
Connor is still on wobbly legs! Can Cross finish him?
Connor rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Cross counters with a crisp right that sends Connor to the canvas! Cross follows up with punches from the mount and this one is all over!
