PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Steve Rogers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rick Rivers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rivers has chosen Superbeast as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 27 - 26 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Steve Rogers!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Rick Rivers!
The judges for this bout are Wagner Zegers, Radbod Blank and Aafke Stam.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Rogers is defended easily by Rivers.
Rivers works the jab nicely.

Rogers scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Rogers in side control, throwing shots but Rivers defends.

Rogers tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Rivers is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Rogers off and has taken his back!
Rogers manages to reverse the position and now he's in Rivers's guard. Nice work there by Rogers.
Rivers is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Rivers had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Rogers defends it easily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Rogers passes Rivers's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Rogers is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Rogers passes to full mount!
Rogers with shots to the head and body - Rivers looks very uncomfortable down there.
Rivers tries to hold on but Rogers postures up.

Rogers is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Rivers to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Rivers shrugs it off.

Rogers goes for an armbar but Rivers turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Rivers.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Rivers trying to control but Rogers is working from the bottom.

Rivers has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Rogers to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Rivers is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Rogers pulls down on the head and he's put Rivers to sleep! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:32 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Steve Rogers!
In his post fight interview, Steve Rogers started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
