The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rodrigo throws a head kick that misses.
Rodrigo looks to score with a jab to the body but Oogway is just out of range.
Rodrigo throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Oogway avoids the head kick by Rodrigo.
Pico Rodrigo seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Rodrigo tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Oogway closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Rodrigo's guard.

Oogway is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Rodrigo doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Oogway.

Oogway looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Rodrigo with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Rodrigo is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Oogway pulls his head out easily.

Oogway is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Rodrigo is just riding it out for now. Oogway eventually gives up the hold.

Oogway is trying to control the action in half guard but Rodrigo is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Oogway connects with a nice short shot to Rodrigo's temple.
Oogway winds up and cracks Rodrigo with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

Oogway looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Rodrigo has momentary wrist control but Oogway slips an elbow through the middle.
Oogway tries to free his leg and advance position but Rodrigo is retaining full guard.
Oogway must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Rodrigo escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Oogway gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Oogway closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Rodrigo quickly recovers to half guard.

Rodrigo is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Oogway scores with a couple of nice shots.
Oogway working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
The referee warns Rodrigo that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Oooooh, big shot lands for Oogway! Rodrigo is hurt baaadly! Oogway is firing away with more strikes - Rodrigo is covering up... the ref is warning him to do something. He's just covering up though still and the ref has to step in to end the fight! This one is all over!
