The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Renton ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Matt Spartan seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Spartan cracks the inside of Renton's front leg.
Renton walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Renton lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Spartan throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

Renton throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Spartan was covering up waiting for the punch and Renton finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Spartan throws a strike but Renton rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Renton lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Spartan lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Renton!
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

That was a close round but I would say that Matt Spartan will probably get the nod.

Spartan drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.

A jab-cross combination lands for Spartan and sends Renton crashing to the mat! Spartan follows him down to the mat - Renton regains half guard but he's not out of trouble yet!

Renton is rocked!

It looks like Mark Renton has been cut.
Renton is breathing heavily.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
