The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Grimes looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Rick Grimes seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Malapitan slips a jab and a cross from Grimes.
Grimes stuffs the takedown.
Malapitan shoots in for a double leg but Grimes sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Grimes throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Malapitan throws a leg kick but Grimes moved away.
Grimes throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Malapitan takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Grimes is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
Grimes uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.

It looks like Rey Malapitan has been cut.
Grimes swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Grimes enables Malapitan to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Grimes manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Grimes on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Grimes tries to get out of the position.

Malapitan is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Grimes can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Malapitan can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Grimes is looking to escape.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
