PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Juan Bobo Jr (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chris Baker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Bobo Jr might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Sweatshop by Corey Harris. Chris Baker has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Juan Bobo Jr's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Juan Bobo Jr!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Chris Baker!
The judges for this bout are Chad Campbell, Lou da Vinci and Steve Montenegro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bobo Jr fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.

Baker drives through and clinches with Bobo Jr against the cage.
Baker is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.

Baker breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Bobo Jr wants to clinch but Baker slips to the side

and Baker counters with a single leg into guard. Bobo Jr didn't expect that.

Baker decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Bobo Jr, up you get!
Bobo Jr misses with a takedown attempt

and Baker counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Baker.
Bobo Jr is breathing heavily.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for leaving it all in the cage!

Baker stands and steps away. Bobo Jr gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Baker throws a quick inside leg kick.

Baker forces Bobo Jr back against the cage and clinches.
Baker using the Thai clinch to land knees to the body.
Baker is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Baker has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Bobo Jr is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Baker breaks from the clinch.

Baker can't get the takedown.
Juan Bobo Jr has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Chris Baker.

Baker is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Baker wanted to stand there but Bobo Jr had control of the position.
Bobo Jr wants to stand and escape but Baker is having none of it.

Baker passes Bobo Jr's left leg - he's now in half guard.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Baker is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Bobo Jr doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Baker.
Baker is stalling here. Bobo Jr is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Baker seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Bobo Jr has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
You can see the frustration on Baker's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Bobo Jr tries to clinch but fails miserably

and Baker counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Baker closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

and Baker counters by clinching up.
Bobo Jr wants to get back to striking at distance but Baker won't allow it.

Baker pulls guard successfully.

Baker scrambles and gets back to his feet.

Baker has closed the distance and engaged Bobo Jr in a clinch.
Baker drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Bobo Jr is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Baker keeps control of Bobo Jr as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Baker.
Baker should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Baker is on top in guard.

Bobo Jr tries to kick Baker off in order to stand up. Baker Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.

Bobo Jr is not content to let Baker control the position.
Bobo Jr is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
Bobo Jr looks to move to half guard but instead Baker has passed into mount! Damn!

Baker is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Bobo Jr can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Baker can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Bobo Jr is looking to escape.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Chris Baker showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Bobo Jr darts in trying to clinch

so Baker counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Baker stands up and waves to Bobo Jr to follow him.

and Baker counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Bobo Jr's guard now.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Baker prevents Bobo Jr from getting back to his feet.

Baker gets to his feet - Bobo Jr follows without any prompting.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Baker escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Bobo Jr closes the distance but Baker moves to the side

and Baker holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Bobo Jr misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Baker circles away from the clinch attempt

and Baker counters with a takedown into side control.
Juan Bobo Jr has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Bobo Jr is not content to let Baker control the position.

Baker wants to lay and pray for a moment but Bobo Jr keeps working.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Bobo Jr tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Baker presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!
Baker controlling his opponent.

Baker is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Bobo Jr is surviving well by controlling Baker's body position as best he can.

And that's the end of the fight!
Chris Baker comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Baker has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
