The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Costello scores with a takedown into Batty's guard.
Batty throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Costello throws a big right hand that misses.
Batty trying to control the position.
Costello controls from within his opponent's guard.
Batty on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Batty tries to get out of the position.
Batty is trying to keep Costello in close.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Gerry Costello.
Costello wants to clinch

and Batty counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Batty.
Batty could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Batty is looking to stand up but Costello won't let him.
Batty has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Costello controls Batty momentarily but Batty frees himself.
Costello wants to sweep but no luck.
Batty wants to control from the top but Costello keeps moving.
Batty trying to stand up but can't free himself from Costello's guard.

Batty drops back looking for a leg! Costello is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Costello manages to kick Batty off! Batty jumps back into Costello's guard.

Costello working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Batty doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Batty manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Batty drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Batty jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Batty loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Costello is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Batty is controlling him.
Batty is looking to pass into half guard but Costello pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Costello is in guard.
Batty is breathing heavily.

Costello decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Batty, up you get!

Costello bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Costello controls the position from side control.
Batty is trying to work for a sweep but Costello has mounted him!

Costello stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Costello manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Costello is pressing down on Batty's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Costello pushes a forearm under Batty's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Batty is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!
