PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Leo Rodrigues (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tim Alvarez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rodrigues's entrance music is Save My Soul. A fine choice. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 2 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

The judges for this bout are Josh West, Chris Saunders and Paul Gruel.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Alvarez fails to land the takedown.
Alvarez shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Rodrigues as he jumps to the side.
Alvarez shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Rodrigues as he avoids it easily.
Leo Rodrigues has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tim Alvarez.
Horrible takedown by Alvarez or perhaps it was just good defense by Rodrigues which made him look bad.
Rodrigues looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Alvarez throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Rodrigues's waist but Rodrigues gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Alvarez off to one side.

and Alvarez counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Alvarez.

Rodrigues gets control of Alvarez's arms and successfully pulls guard. Rodrigues will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Rodrigues has momentary wrist control but Alvarez slips an elbow through the middle.

Alvarez distracts Rodrigues with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Rodrigues has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Alvarez can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Alvarez drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Rodrigues dives on top into guard.

Alvarez has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Alvarez works over Rodrigues with some ground and pound from guard.

Alvarez looking to sit in guard and control but Rodrigues gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Rodrigues could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Alvarez is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Alvarez drops back looking for a leg! Rodrigues is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Rodrigues manages to kick Alvarez off! Alvarez jumps back into Rodrigues's guard.

Alvarez drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Rodrigues dives on top into guard.
Alvarez lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Rodrigues!

Alvarez looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Alvarez cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Rodrigues has left one of his arms exposed and Alvarez doesn't need a second invitation. He's isolated it and locked on a tight armbar. Rodrigues screams and taps out, obviously in a lot of pain. Hopefully there isn't permanent damage to that arm.
