The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Donatello Bradman and Winston Howard.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Alves fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Monthan on the side of the head.
Alves throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Monthan stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Alves throws a sloppy head kick
and Monthan counters with a thumping low kick.
Alves misses the shot to the body.
Alves cracks Monthan with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Alves thows a left - swing and a miss!
Monthan on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.

Monthan checks the leg kick nicely there.
Monthan moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Monthan tries to score a power double leg takedown but Alves sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Monthan somewhat.

Monthan shoots in looking for a takedown but Alves manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Monthan's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Alves throws a front kick aimed at Monthan's knee but Monthan avoids it well.

and Alves makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
Monthan ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Larry Monthan is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Monthan takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Monthan shoots for a double leg takedown but Alves sprawls well. He's pushed Monthan's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Alves uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.

and Monthan counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Alves!
Monthan wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Alves, who protects the arm well.
Monthan tries to move into full mount but can't pass Alves's legs.
Monthan thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Monthan tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Monthan has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Monthan goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Alves has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Monthan but great work by Alves.

Alves is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Monthan is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Monthan regains half guard.
Monthan tries to get to full guard but Alves has control of the leg.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Alves connects with a nice short shot to Monthan's temple.
Alves lands with a punch from half guard.
Monthan avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Alves.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Monthan tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
Alves tries to stand but can't do so whilst Monthan controls his leg.
Alves will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Alves with a flurry of punches that miss.

That was a close second round but I would say that Marcelo Alves will probably get the nod.
