PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Billy Miles (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Daniel Cormier (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cormier has chosen Sick Puppies - You're Going Down as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Billy Miles!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Daniel Cormier!
The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Bruno Hogan and Winston Howard.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cormier scores to the head and body with a nice combination!
The fight stays on the outside here - Cormier looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Cormier tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Miles swats away the attempt to clinch by Cormier.
Miles tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Cormier paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Miles drives through and clinches with Cormier against the cage.
Miles is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Cormier pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Cormier breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Cormier fakes the leg kick and cracks Miles in the body.
Miles wants to clinch up but Cormier keeps it at a distance.
Miles blocks the body kick.
Cormier connects with a single shot there.
Miles could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Cormier wants to clinch up but Miles keeps it at a distance.

Miles feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Miles is looking to take a break and control but Cormier is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Cormier is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Cormier is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Miles might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Cormier is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Cormier working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Miles doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Miles manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Cormier looking to hit a scissor sweep but Miles is one step ahead there.
Miles has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Miles pushes down on Cormier's leg and manages to get into half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Cormier is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
A head kick misses from Miles.
Cormier tries for a takedown but Miles sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Miles shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Cormier as he jumps to the side.
Miles tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Cormier paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Cormier scores with a jab to the head.
Cormier moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
Miles stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Miles wants it to stay on the feet.

Miles scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Cormier tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Miles wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Miles goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Cormier has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Miles but great work by Cormier.
Cormier cracks Miles with a big right hand but Miles just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

Cormier decides to stand up, so the ref orders Miles to his feet.
Cormier throws a head kick that Miles semi-blocks.
Cormier is breathing heavily.

Miles shoots in and gets a takedown into Cormier's guard.

Miles is working hard here to advance position.
Miles knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Cormier on the ground.

Miles is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Miles wants to pass the guard but Cormier is keeping the position.

Miles throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Miles is working Cormier over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Cormier controls Miles momentarily but Miles frees himself.
Miles seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Miles scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Miles accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Daniel Cormier showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Cormier displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Miles.

Cormier misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Miles avoids a kick to the body.
Miles takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Miles moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Cormier.

Miles gets a clinch.
Miles has Cormier pressed against the cage, preventing Cormier from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Miles breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Cormier shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Miles defends it nicely.
Miles swats away the attempt to clinch by Cormier.

Cormier moves into range and connects with a jab.
Miles wants to clinch.
Cormier tries to bum rush Miles with a series of wild strikes but Miles uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Cormier throws a head kick that misses.
Daniel Cormier seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Cormier takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Horrible takedown by Miles or perhaps it was just good defense by Cormier which made him look bad.
Miles tries to close the distance and clinch up but Cormier swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Cormier shoots for a takedown but Miles saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Miles looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Cormier is fending him off so far but Miles persists. Nope, Cormier circles away and we're back to standing.

Cormier escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Miles gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Miles won't allow Cormier to sweep him here.
Miles is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Miles trying to control the position from guard on top but Cormier is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Cormier is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Miles defends well.

Well, if Miles is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Daniel Cormier is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Miles takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Miles thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Cormier is looking to escape.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Cormier has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Miles is working away from the top position though.

I would just about give that final round to Daniel Cormier.
I've got Cormier winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
