And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Roger Martinez!
The judges for this bout are Chad Campbell, Alyssa Summers and Russell Pearce.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A punch combination from Martinez misses.
Martinez lands the left hand.
Johnson uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Martinez.
Martinez swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Martinez looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Johnson gets a double leg takedown into Martinez's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Martinez looks winded!
Johnson controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Johnson pushes down on Martinez's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Johnson content to control rather than advance.

Johnson postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Martinez to stand up.
Martinez looks to land a combination but Johnson avoids it well.
Johnson ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Martinez moves away.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Martinez throws a jab but it's blocked by Johnson.

Johnson shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Johnson slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Johnson might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Edit Johnson.
Martinez throws a series of punches but Johnson moves out of range.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Johnson drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Martinez really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Johnson. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Johnson drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Johnson jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Johnson drops back looking for a leg! Martinez is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Martinez manages to kick Johnson off! Johnson jumps back into Martinez's guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Johnson is stalling in the full guard.
Johnson passes Martinez's left leg - he's now in half guard.

Johnson seems like he's working for an arm triangle here. He's freed his trapped foot and he's rotating nicely. Martinez is in big trouble! He's tapping out! This one is aaaaaaaaaaaall over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Edit Johnson!
An out of breath Edit Johnson thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
